Job description

Project Executive / Operations Manager (PEX/OM)

Position Summary

The Project Executive/Operations Manager (PEX/OM) serves as the senior operational leader responsible for the overall success of one or more construction projects. This role provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and leadership to project teams while ensuring excellence in safety, quality, schedule, profitability, and client satisfaction.

The PEX/OM may oversee a single large, complex project valued in excess of $75 million or manage multiple projects through the leadership of project management and field teams. This individual partners closely with business development efforts, supports recruiting and staffing initiatives, and serves as a key liaison between clients, operations, and executive leadership.

The successful candidate must have significant commercial construction experience and a proven track record leading large, complex construction projects. Experience in advanced manufacturing, industrial, life sciences, mission critical/data centers, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or food & beverage manufacturing facilities is strongly preferred.

Note: The titles Project Executive and Operations Manager may be used interchangeably within the organization and represent the same position classification.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for project performance.
  • Develop and execute project strategies that support client objectives and business goals.
  • Lead project teams to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and profitability targets.
  • Manage multiple project teams and mentor project management and field leadership staff.
  • Ensure projects are adequately staffed with qualified personnel.

Financial Management

  • Establish and monitor project profitability goals.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, and financial reporting.
  • Review profitability analyses and implement strategies to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Oversee owner billing processes and monitor subcontractor and vendor payments.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Participate in preconstruction and estimating activities.
  • Lead contract negotiations and communicate contractual obligations to project teams.
  • Establish project execution plans, procedures, and controls.
  • Oversee project scheduling efforts and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Approve change management plans and ensure compliance throughout project execution.

Client Relations & Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to generate repeat business opportunities.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, presentations, and proposal development.
  • Act as an executive representative with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and project-specific requirements.
  • Oversee quality control processes and project documentation standards.
  • Monitor contract compliance and risk management activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Talent Development

  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing project teams.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning activities.
  • Support career development and training opportunities for assigned staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of commercial construction project management experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience at the Senior Project Manager level or equivalent leadership role.
  • Proven experience successfully leading large-scale commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse project teams.
  • Strong client relationship management and business development experience.
  • Deep understanding of project financial management, scheduling, contract administration, quality control, safety management, and risk mitigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering projects in one or more of the following markets:
    • Advanced Manufacturing
    • Industrial
    • Life Sciences
    • Mission Critical / Data Centers
    • Semiconductor
    • Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology
    • Food & Beverage Manufacturing
  • Experience managing highly technical facilities with complex MEP systems, commissioning requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Experience overseeing projects valued at $75 million or greater.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, and project delivery systems.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, procurement, and contract management.
  • Ability to lead operational execution while aligning projects with broader business unit objectives.
  • Expertise in managing complex construction projects with demanding technical, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and carry office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to visit active construction sites and navigate varying site conditions while following all applicable safety requirements.
