Job description

About the Role

Hays Electrical Services is hiring its first dedicated Project Manager to help its IT, Data, and Business Intelligence teams get structured. Today this work is coordinated informally, without consistent timelines, priorities, or accountability. This role brings structure to it — giving every active project a clear plan, visible progress, and someone accountable for keeping it on track.

You will be the sole Project Manager supporting these teams from day one, working directly with technical leads and contributors to plan and drive their projects to completion.

This is an execution and facilitation role. You keep projects aligned and on schedule; technical direction, budget, and vendor decisions stay with the team's domain experts and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the project management lifecycle — scoping, estimating, planning, scheduling, and tracking, including controlling scope as projects evolve — for IT, data, and Power BI/BI reporting projects.

• Work directly with IT, data, and BI leads and contributors to translate their priorities into structured, trackable project plans.

• Proactively identify and remove roadblocks across IT, data, and BI projects, stepping in to solve the problem directly when it makes sense rather than only flagging it.

• Own communication and meeting facilitation across all active projects: run the standing meetings the team needs, keep the right people in the loop, and prevent stalls from lack of alignment.

• Spearhead deadlines — track what is due, hold the team accountable to commitments, and keep every active project visibly on track.

• Track project risks and issues across every workstream, surfacing them early and driving them to resolution before they turn into missed deadlines.

• Drive projects through to formal closeout — coordinating acceptance/UAT sign-off with the right people and capturing lessons learned so each project sharpens the next.

• Coordinate IT changes and rollouts so they land with minimal disruption, with the right people prepped and looped in before anything goes live.

• Set up and maintain the project management systems, boards, and reporting cadences the team currently lacks (e.g., ClickUp or similar PM tooling).

• Identify and resolve resource conflicts, scheduling bottlenecks, and cross-project dependencies — negotiating competing priorities among stakeholders — before they become problems.

• Lay the groundwork for a future PMO function, including documentation, templates, and workflows that scale as the scope of managed projects grows.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience managing IT projects (systems, software rollouts, or similar).

• Project management certification — PMP, CAPM, or a recognized Agile/Scrum certification.

• Experience managing or closely supporting data or business intelligence projects (e.g., Power BI, reporting, or data pipeline initiatives).

• Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with technical teams; an understanding of how IT projects actually run, not just PM theory.

• Strong organizational and communication skills; comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects with different stakeholders.

• A bias toward solving problems directly rather than only escalating them.

• Comfortable owning meeting cadences and deadline accountability across several concurrent workstreams at once.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience standing up project management processes or tooling from scratch (ClickUp, Jira, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar).

• Prior experience in a growing organization where you helped build out a PM function or team over time.

Growth Path

As demand grows, this position is expected to expand into leading a broader IT Project Management Office (PMO) — covering additional initiatives beyond these teams, such as software implementations and system rollouts across the wider IT organization, and eventually overseeing additional project management hires.
