Job description

About the Role

At Alaska Gear Company, we build gear designed for people who go further, from backcountry remote camps to everyday life in Alaska. Our products are built around durability, function, and real-world use in some of the harshest conditions on earth.

We’re looking for a Content and Email Marketing Specialist to help us tell that story and drive customer engagement across our marketing channels. This role blends strategy, execution, and organization helping shape the content we create while also owning the systems and campaigns that bring it to life. Email marketing is the core of the role, but you’ll also help bring our blog, YouTube channel, and paid media campaigns to life using performance driven marketing while helping maintain a consistent brand voice across every touchpoint.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants broad exposure to content and lifecycle marketing at a growing outdoor brand. You’ll work closely with our marketing team, designers, and contract writers/videographers and you’ll learn the full content engine from strategy to send.

What You’ll Do

Email Marketing
  • Plan, build, and send email campaigns — product launches, promotions, seasonal pushes, content newsletters, and customer education.
  • Own our email automations and lifecycle flows: welcome series, browse and cart abandonment, postpurchase, winback, replenishment, and VIP/loyalty journeys.
  • Segment lists thoughtfully and run A/B tests on subject lines, creative, send times, and offers to improve open, click, and conversion rates.
  • Maintain a rolling email calendar that aligns with promotions, content drops, and inventory priorities.
  • Monitor deliverability, list health, and unsubscribe trends; flag and address issues quickly.
  • Content Strategy
  • Help shape our content strategy across email, blog, YouTube, and social — identifying audience segments, messaging themes, and the role each channel plays in the customer journey.
  • Maintain a unified editorial calendar so campaigns, content, and product launches reinforce each other instead of competing.
  • Collaborate with team members to translate brand voice and audience insights into clear briefs for writers, designers, and video creators.
  • Recommend which content initiatives are worth investing in next based on performance data and customer feedback.
  • Identify deliverables from each content project, and determine deployment channels and timelines. Gathering all additional content needed to deploy. i.e. copy, thumbnails, VO.
  • Content Production and Distribution
  • Coordinate the blog content pipeline — briefing, editing, SEO optimization, publishing in our CMS, and scheduling distribution.
  • Manage YouTube uploads endtoend: titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, end screens, playlists, and chapter markers.
  • Repurpose longform content (videos, blogs) into email modules, social posts, and ad creative so we get more mileage from every piece.
  • Paid Media Support
  • Partner with the Digital Marketing Manager on campaign builds across Meta, Google, and YouTube — assembling ad copy, creative variations, and landing page content.
  • Help build and QA campaign structures, audiences, and UTM tracking before launch.
  • Translate topperforming organic content into paid creative concepts.
  • Performance and Optimization
  • Track core content and email metrics weekly; report trends and surface what’s working.
  • Run small, structured tests (subject lines, hooks, thumbnails, CTAs) and document learnings in a shared playbook.
  • Use customer data and onsite behavior to refine segmentation and personalization over time.
  • What We’re Looking For
  • 35 years of experience in marketing, content, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing instincts. You can take a product or topic and write copy that sounds like a person, not a brochure.
  • Comfort with numbers. You don’t need to be an analyst, but you should be able to read a dashboard and use it to make decisions.
  • Highly organized. You can juggle a calendar, hit send dates, and keep multiple campaigns moving at once.
  • Curiosity about the customer. You want to understand who buys from us and why — and you’re willing to read reviews, support tickets, and survey responses to find out.
  • Genuine interest in the outdoors, Alaska, and the kind of gear that holds up to real conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • Nice to Have
  • Handson experience with an email platform like Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or Attentive.
  • Familiarity with Shopify or a similar ecommerce platform.
  • Basic comfort in Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, or Google Ads.
  • SEO fundamentals — keyword research, onpage optimization, internal linking.
  • Experience with a project management tool like Monday, Asana, ClickUp, or Notion.
  • Tools You’ll Use Or Learn

Klaviyo, Shopify, Google Analytics 4, Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, YouTube Studio, Adobe Creative Suite, and a project management tool. We’ll train you on the platforms you don’t already know.

    What You’ll Get
  • A seat at the table on marketing strategy from day one — not just an execution role.
  • Direct ownership of the channel that drives a meaningful share of our revenue.
  • Mentorship and the ability to grow into a Content Marketing Manager or Lifecycle Marketing role.
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (after 90 days)
  • Holiday pay
  • 401(k)
  • Generous employee discounts and complimentary gear rentals
  • A collaborative, outdoorfocused team culture
  • Why Work at Alaska Gear Company?

Our marketing team plays a key role in bringing the Alaska Gear Company brand to life through compelling content, engaging email campaigns, and authentic storytelling. From product launches and customer journeys to field-tested adventures and brand initiatives, we create content that informs, inspires, and strengthens connections with our community.

Joining Alaska Gear Company means helping shape the voice of a brand built for extreme environments while working alongside a team that values creativity, collaboration, and a shared passion for the outdoors. If you enjoy crafting meaningful content, building customer engagement, and contributing to a growing Alaska-based company, we’d love to hear from you.
