HDR is currently seeking a Site Civil Engineer (PE) for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering.  This person will be responsible for the design of facility-related sites in support of the Data Center market, initially, with future opportunities to explore a variety of markets including Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, and Sports & Recreation buildings and infrastructure.  They will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. 

Experience in land development and the design of building related site civil (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is required. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative, and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound designs

In the role of Site Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to: 

           Design and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities

           Perform calculations in support of the site development (stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology calcs, etc.)

           Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this position; Serve as the Engineer of Record on non-complex projects

           Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed

           Author reports that are technically sound, grammatically correct, and well organized

           Contribute to the development of civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposals

           Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete all due diligence research and documentation

           Understand and meet Jurisdictional requirements in your design and support the Pre-Application process; Coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction to determine design and submittal requirements and coordinate design solutions

           Transition the concept plans through the schematic and construction design processes

           Coordinate with subconsultants for support and design services

           Attend and contribute to client meetings

           Use engineering judgement to determine the best course of action

           Be independent in your pursuit of information and solutions

           Manage your time and organization of multiple tasks/projects

           Communicate effectively with managers and team members

           Pursue efficiencies within your work and operations

           Mentor junior staff and delegate appropriate tasks

           Be an advocate for HDR, the BES Business Group, and the Site Civil team

           Perform other tasks that support the mission and vision of HDR and the BES Business Group

Preferred Qualifications 
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in general civil engineering

  • Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
