How do you become a civil engineer?

Career: Civil Engineer

Civil engineers must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or one of its specialty fields. You must complete a program from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) to gain the license required to work as a professional engineer. It usually takes about four years to complete the requisite courses in statistics, mathematics, fluid dynamics, and engineering mechanics and systems. Roughly one-fifth of civil engineers also hold a master’s degree, as it increases the odds of securing a managerial position.
