Job description

Controller  

The Controller serves as a key financial leader for the church, involved in all aspects of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. This role is for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys improving processes, and can balance both strategic and tactical responsibilities. The Controller will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to ensure the integrity and transparency of financial operations across all campuses, supporting the church’s mission and strategic objectives.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Direct the church’s accounting functions, including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Supervise and mentor a staff team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Prepare financial forecasting reports and financial statements for multiple locations and departments.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process and work collaboratively with campus leaders and senior leadership to monitor budget performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, church policies, and best practices in nonprofit accounting.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors.
  • Manage cash flow including forecasting and planning to support church operations.  
  • Monitor and manage the performance of invested assets to meet established objectives.
  • Manage the church’s retirement plans and prepare all necessary reports. 
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning. 

What We Are Looking For: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2    years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in nonprofit or church accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights for leaders.
