Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) One (1) year of full-time or its part-time paid or volunteer equivalent experience working in a clerical capacity; OR,
(B) One (1) year of full-time or its part-time paid or volunteer equivalent experience working with children; OR,
(C) Possession of a certificate of completion of a course of Child Care through an occupational school, The American Red Cross or similar agency; OR,
(D) A combination of experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
NOTE: Successful completion of one (1) year of college education beyond high school (minimum of 30 semester college credit hours) may be substituted for the one (1) year of experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Must be flexible, patient and physically/emotionally able to handle rigorous individualized programs which can become confrontational in nature;
Maintain standards of decorum and confidentiality;
Daily attendance is expected.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Provides support to individual students, small groups of students, or full classes under the general supervision of a certified teacher in support of the instructional plan; this could be in the form of following a lesson plan that is not new instructional material for the students;
Provides teacher with information about students that will assist the teachers in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences;
Assists students in the use of available instructional resources;
Assist students in accessing instructional programs in areas such as: language other than English, arts, music, special subjects and life skills;
Assists teacher in related instructional work as required (includes copying, filing and compiling attendance sheets);
Assists students with specific health related activities as appropriate;
May assist with coordination of student development of parent/student workshops;
May supervise lunch room, computer lab, library and bus duty;
May assist student with their daily activities with regard to mobility;
Interfaces with parents and staff;
Assists student attendance office;
Attends to the building copy room;
Processes copying jobs for staff;
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
