Overview

Under supervision, the Motor Vehicle Operator will operate Library vehicles and be dispatched to move, transport, pickup and deliver furniture, equipment, books and other supplies and materials as assigned. Also, responsible for maintaining the vehicles driven to ensure safe operation and acceptable mechanical condition.

This is a full-time, union, non-exempt positions. The hiring salary for this position is $46,446.40.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in loading & unloading materials and equipment
  • Transport Library staff safely to locations as directed
  • Transport Library materials to assigned locations
  • Assist in packing & unpacking Library books and materials
  • Participate in snow removal
  • Assemble furniture
  • Prepare reports & forms and records activities as required

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid New York State driver's license
  • Able to lift heavy objects (60lbs or more)
  • Experienced and able to use small hand tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Able to work all shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift, carry or otherwise move and position heavy objects
  • Bending, stooping, crouching and reaching
  • Transport library materials
