Youth Monitor
Location: Bainbridge
Wage: $14.00
Hours: 15 hours/week - Monday through Friday, 2 PM to 5 PM.
Position Summary: Monitors and supervises youth behavior in and around the library after school. 15 hours per week, part-time, non-exempt. May have to stay late on Fridays until the last child is picked up. Year-round position providing program support in Summer.
Essential Job Functions: This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position.
  • Monitors and supervises youth in the library after school when school is in session.
  • Maintains order and proper behavior by explaining and enforcing library rules and policies in a constructive and courteous manner.
  • Maintains records of infractions on individuals who present problems of conduct.
  • Reports incidents with thorough documentation of events.
  • Engages youth in positive conversation.
  • Guides students to the reference desk for assistance with information needs.
  • May provide assistance with location of library materials.
  • May assist in youth programs or other duties as found necessary by supervisor to meet the needs of the library. May supervise young adult volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Ability to relate well with staff and public, especially young adults and children.
  • Ability to explain and enforce rules in a positive manner.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Possess a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Possess reliable work habits.
  • Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing work environment.
  • Safely observes PERRP procedures.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:
  • Competence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to patron behavior with awareness and good judgment.
  • Effective communication ability in person, on the phone, or over the internet, which may include using speech or other communication devices.
  • Ability to operate objects, tools, or controls - including computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Ability to navigate a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor spaces and stairs, and to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and needed to monitor or assist patrons with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 10 pounds frequently or 40 pounds occasionally with or without assistance.

Pay Range: $14 per hour
