Job description

The Muskingum County Library is seeking Adult Literacy Tutors

Location: John McIntire (220 N Fifth St, Zanesville, OH 43701)

Closing Date: Ongoing

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, Adult Literacy Tutors will report to the Adult Literacy Specialist and perform various tasks related to tutoring Adult Learners.

Necessary Qualifications

High School diploma; valid State of Ohio driver’s license; ability to remain calm under stressful conditions; patience; positive attitude

Time Commitment

Minimum of four hours per month, for six months

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Physically load and unload materials for transportation to and from meeting locations

  • Relate well with the general public and exhibit a broad reading background

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with library patrons and fellow tutors

  • Exhibit creativity to prepare informative and engaging lessons

  • Maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive subject matter

  • Ability to relate well with adults of varying economic and social backgrounds
