Job description

About the Team

The General Manager (GM) is a strategic business leader that provides operational leadership and oversight of the performance of the Chief Operating Office (COO) by leading business planning, business administration, program management and support for the Chief Operating Officer. Acts as a key partner and liaison to other business unit (BU) GMs and works with a broad group of stakeholders within and outside of COO Group to advance work, lead the execution of key priorities, and ensure information is shared effectively and clearly on behalf of the COO. The GM proactively manages financial, communication and other issues as they arise and is responsible for providing support in these areas to other members of the BU lead team. The GM is also responsible for making decisions related to business management needs and priorities by working closely with the leadership team.

This position will be based out of the Baltimore office with regular travel to the Owings Mills campus.

Role Summary

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Collaborates with leadership to define COO initiatives in support of firm growth and innovation.

  • Tracks priorities across all COO group functions and follows up as needed with leaders to drive execution and meet deadlines, serve as a sounding board on key priorities and challenges, removing roadblocks as needed.

  • Participates in agenda build and meeting coordination for COO group ELT and All Hands meetings.

  • Enables creation of efficiency, scalability, and capacity through development of policies, practices, and processes for repeatable work.

Business Management and Financial Planning:

  • Oversees the operational aspects of the COO organization, ensuring seamless execution of projects, initiatives, and technology operations.

  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of operations and implement improvements as needed.

  • Develops and manages the COO budget, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources for technology projects, staffing, and infrastructure.

  • Monitors financial performance and makes data-driven decisions to optimize spending while achieving desired outcomes.

  • Leads preparation of COO Group 3-year strategic plan and budget in collaboration with Lead Team and finance business partners; identifies and proposes metrics for COO Group to measure success and productivity.

  • Works with finance business partner on an ongoing basis to ensure COO Group remains on-budget and makes recommendations for any changes or re-allocations. Manages open positions to ensure up to date hire dates and drives processes

Communications and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Connects the COO GM network to solve common problems and ensure deadlines are met, information is rolled up consistently, and information is cascaded and shared effectively.

  • Works with key internal partners and stakeholders outside of COO Group (HR, Finance, TRP GM network, etc.) on key processes and activities to drive on behalf of COO and ensure coordination across the various partner areas and help facilitate cross - COO decisions.

  • Partner with COO Chief of Staff to develop and execute communication strategy for the COO Group. Guides the planning and execution of key touch points for Technology associates and leaders including town halls, Extended Lead Team (XLT) meetings, and people leader calls.

  • Develops a broad network in the COO Group and across the firm to keep a pulse on associate morale and needs and identify any opportunities for increased stakeholder engagement.

QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 10+ years of total relevant work experience

Preferred:
  • Financial services industry experience - particularly in asset management.

  • Experience working in an operations organization preferred.

  • Exceptional written communication skills including preparing presentations.

  • Excellent executive presence (including with MC members) and oral communication skills.

  • Influential leader able to build consensus, bring others along, and drive change adapting to people or the situation; systematically builds support at multiple levels and across groups.

  • Collaborative leader, able to develop broad and deep relationships across the organization.

  • Hands-on and detail oriented "doer"; rolls-up his/ her sleeves and does real work.

  • Proactive approach to setting priorities and executing; needs minimal guidance to execute.

  • Determined leader with strong sense of accountability and ownership; tirelessly drives prompt execution.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
