Job description
We are seeking a Engineer / Construction Cost Estimator - Mine Closure & Reclamation.
Description of Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will support mine closure planning and construction cost estimating projects for operating, development, and legacy mine sites.
- Preparing construction and reclamation cost estimates for financial assurance, permitting, feasibility studies, asset retirement obligations and life-of-mine planning.
- Developing quantit y take-offs from engineering drawings, Civil 3D models, GIS data, technical reports, and site information.
- Developing unit rates using contractor pricing, equipment productivity, vendor quotations, historical cost data, and industry cost databases.
- Preparing bases of estimate and documenting estimate assumptions, methodologies, construction approaches, pricing sources, and estimate risks.
- Supporting mine closure planning, reclamation engineering, and heavy civil construction evaluations.
- Working with multidisciplinary teams of civil, mining, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, environmental, and geochemical professionals.
- Preparing technical reports, memoranda, proposals, and presentations.
- Managing assigned work within established project budgets and schedules.
- Participating in site visits and client meetings as required .
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering , Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience as a construction cost estimator.
- Approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience (less may be considered based on experience) .
- Experience with engineering design, heavy civil construction, construction estimating, or mine engineering.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, earthworks, equipment productivity, logistics and unit-rate development.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, grading plans, specifications, and technical reports.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills .
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or active progression toward professional licensure (e.g., FE exam passed/Engineering Intern certification), is preferred
- Ability to travel to mine sites as required .
Additional Beneficial Experience
- Mine closure, reclamation, or financial assurance cost estimating.
- Mining or heavy civil consulting experience.
- Civil 3D, GIS, or quantity takeoff software.
- CostMine , RSMeans , HeavyBid , SRCE , or similar estimating software.
- Familiarity with AACE estimating practices and estimate classifications.
- Project management and client interaction.
Preferred Locations: Eagle River, Alaska; Reno or Elko, Nevada. Remote work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
