Location: Camp Keystone, Starke, Florida

Position Type: Temporary Full-Time

Assists in the operation of challenge course activities for the Salvation Army camps.  Ensures challenge course activities are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities.  Assists and participates with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Challenge Course Specialist. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in Challenge Course operation. 
  • Assists with execution of challenge course activities as planned by the Camp Challenge Course Specialist. 
  • Assists in ensuring that the highest level of safety and precautionary measures are in place and utilized. 
  • Assists in teaching and monitoring proper use of equipment. 
  • Assists with checking for properly fitted headgear for all participants. 
  • Assists with checking of equipment for safety and needed repairs.  Report needed repairs to Camp Challenge Course Specialist. 
  • Assists with cleaning and securing all equipment at the end of each session. 
  • Assists with keeping the Challenge Course area clean. 
  • Assists in maintaining program supplies. 
  • Assists with keeping records on participants. 
  • Assists with end of season inventory & packing of materials and supplies. 
  • Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions. 
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed. 
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection. 
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • One year experience leading sports, recreation or challenge course activities preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification or documented training from a recognized organization or certifying body for the types of activities offered.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Challenge Course Assistant position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.  Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information:

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 05/26/2026 – 06/7/2026 and participation is required. The 2026 Summer Camp Program will be held 06/8/2026 – 07/18/2026. If you are unable to work the entire program session, please let us know on your application.
