The Dining Services Department at Givens Highland Farms, a continuing care retirement community in Black Mountain, is hiring for a full-time Sous Chef to join our knowledgeable and supportive culinary team. In our brand new, state of the art kitchen we do from-scratch cooking. The schedule for this position is 5 days per week working roughly 10:30am - 7:30pm, with rotating days off.

What you'll do:

  • Directly supervise the following: Cooks, Dietary Aides, Servers, and other support staff
  • Assist in recruiting, and responsible for training, directing and evaluating staff who work under your authority
  • Coordinate with the Executive Chef to complete initial 90 days of employment, as well as annual employee evaluations
  • Assist Executive Chef in the planning of menus, develop recipes, and direct production schedule and quantities
  • Plan, direct, and oversee all catering events for Givens Highland Farms
  • Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor

What you'll need:

  • High School or GED equivalent is required, while some higher education is preferred
  • Achievement of Certified Executive Sous Chef (CEC) or Certified Master Chef (CMC) is desired, but not required

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years progressive experience in hospitality, multi-unit, medium volume food service Operations or other related fields are desired

  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthy trends in foods and diets, dietary requirements and restrictions for senior adults; creativity and innovation in menu planning and presentation; achievement in training, motivational, and organizational skills; and success in management of a budget, purchasing, and payroll control

  • Ability to accurately estimate quantities of food needed and yields from bulk foods
  • Previous experience in opening new operations is desirable
  • Certified in Serve Safe & Sanitation or equivalent food handler’s certificate

Compensation: $25.50 per hour, plus includes our comprehensive benefits package!
