To thrive as a Carpet Layer, you need proficiency in measuring, cutting, and installing various types of carpet, often supported by a high school diploma and on-the-job training or apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools like power stretchers, seam rollers, knee kickers, and utility knives is essential, and some states may require flooring installation certification. Carpet layers often encounter challenges such as working in tight or irregularly shaped spaces, dealing with subfloor imperfections, and ensuring precise measurements for seamless installation.
