Job description

SUMMARY

HHDC is seeking a part-time Janitor for our Walden Oaks apartment complex in Chicago, IL. The Janitor is responsible for keeping the interior and exterior of the property, common areas, vacant units, sidewalks, alleyways, and grounds clean, safe, and well maintained. This position will also assist with basic maintenance, landscaping, and seasonal property needs as necessary.

The Janitor is expected to provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional and safe working environment while following HHDC, OSHA, and applicable safety standards.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

Part-Time: 28 hours per week
Schedule: 4 days per week, 7 hours per day
Pay Rate: $17.85 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums all hallways and common areas.
  • Cleans common areas, vacant apartments, parking areas, sidewalks, alleyways, and on-site management offices.
  • Maintains exterior cleanliness and curb appeal of the property.
  • Picks up trash and debris throughout the property.
  • Assists with lawn care, leaf removal, and snow shoveling as needed.
  • Performs basic plumbing and maintenance tasks as necessary.
  • Properly uses and maintains janitorial equipment and supplies.
  • Follows OSHA, manufacturer, and HHDC safety procedures.
  • Maintains proper storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials and cleaning chemicals in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Reports maintenance, safety, or property concerns to the Property Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Previous janitorial experience preferred, preferably in an apartment or residential setting.
  • Ability to identify and safely handle cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Basic plumbing and mechanical aptitude.
  • Good safety habits.
  • Personable, reliable, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to work effectively with residents, coworkers, and management.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
