Job description

As a Carpenter’s Assistant, you will work on residential properties doing carpentry work involving general repairs to properties.

You will be an assistant to a lead carpenter and under they’re direction when performing tasks assigned by project manager’s. Previous experience is a must!

Duties:

·         Estimate materials needed for various projects.

·         Constructs and repairs but not limited to installing trim, structural and non-structural repairs, drywall, painting, light electrical and plumbing, cabinetry work, etc.

·         Records time and material used on various projects.

·         Executes purchase orders authorized by the department head.

·         Performs related work as required and as directed.

Qualifications:

·         Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures involved in the carpentry and building trade.

·         Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials and supplies used in the trade.

·         Knowledge of the care and safe usage of power tools.

·         Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety devices and practices.

·         Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various wood.

·         Ability to work from sketches or blueprints.

·         Ability to plan, layout and perform carpentry work of average difficulty.

·         Ability to inspect lumber for grade and quality.

·         Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.

·         Ability to operate a company vehicle and possess the required license.

·         Skill in the care and use of the tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.

Preferred Experience:

5-10 years of carpentry experience

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school. Experience as a journeyman carpenter or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in this work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which, provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.
