Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Career Center is a dynamic department that is at the forefront of the institutional mission and is seeking strong student leaders to represent the office as ambassadors while supporting the daily operations of the office.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Office Duties
  • Provide superb front desk reception, involving actively greeting office visitors and assisting them with appointment check-in, answering questions, and referring to staff members or other offices as necessary

  • Answer main office phone professionally, fielding inquiries from students, alumni, and employers seeking to hire Berklee students, as well as staff and faculty across campus

  • Assist students and alumni in using the Berklee Career Manager to make career advising appointments and search for jobs/gigs/internships and alumni mentors

  • Assist employers in using the Berklee Career Manager to list jobs/gigs/internships

  • Open and close the office, including organizing and tidying to keep the space presentable

Event Assistance
  • Assist in planning, marketing, and hosting career-related events as needed

  • Be aware of and able to promote career events, internships, and job opportunities on and off campus

Projects
  • Complete miscellaneous projects as needed, such as researching, typing and editing documents, photocopying and filing, and other duties as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Career Center Ambassador Professional Tracks:

The project tracks within the Career Center Ambassador role provide a unique opportunity to develop and grow as a leader and contributor within the Career Center and Berklee community. Your track will be determined through a combined process of your expressed interest, demonstrated competencies, and department needs.

General Administration
  • Project lead on Berklee Career Manager job board, and frontline services

  • Assist staff in analyzing, interpreting, and organizing data collected from events using Excel/Google Sheets to report and develop better strategies for future events

  • Create and edit events, update career outcomes of College and Conservatory Alumni, manage and update walk-in data, and Assist Alumni Affairs in creating and updating manually created alumni accounts on Berklee Career Manager

  • Research, collect, analyze, and edit information for writing projects as assigned. This may include writing for Career Center-related resources, or for internal purposes

Social Media/Marketing Track
  • Research, curate, and analyze data for social media content calendar (ex. Facebook, Instagram); including industry news, career events, students/alumni spotlights, and on and off-campus opportunity reminders

  • Manage weekly posts and maintain a uniform and fresh social media presence, with a willingness to be proactive and take initiative in order to seek out or suggest new ideas or different approaches

  • Monitor Career Center's Slack channels for content

  • Utilize graphic design platforms such as Canva to create content

  • Attend monthly meetings to establish content ideas for the month ahead, touch base on upcoming important events, etc.

  • Stay updated with social media trends, hashtags, and fashions in general

Career Peer Advising Track

The Career Peer program will support and develop Career Peers Advisors (peer-to-peer) with a focus on a relationship-based, student-centered, and co-exploration approach to coaching and advising. Career Peer responsibilities include:

  • Holding pop-up/walk-in hours for drop-in coaching/advising

  • Tabling at Career Center signature events

  • Appointment preparation outreach and coaching

  • Participation in career-based presentations and workshops

  • Supporting professional staff in their advising and career community work

  • Attending regularly scheduled trainings centered around the principles of effective career coaching and career-based content areas

Talent Relations Track:

The Talent Relations Track supports the Industry Relations team by identifying, researching, and recommending talented Berklee students and alumni for industry opportunities. Students will help build Berklee's internal talent roster while learning how to evaluate talent and connect individuals with opportunities across the music industry. The responsibilities include:

  • Discover and research talented Berklee students and alumni across a variety of disciplines.

  • Help build and maintain Berklee's internal roster of standout talent.

  • Source and recommend talent for performances, gigs and other industry opportunities.

  • Create talent profiles, one-sheets, and pitch decks for internal and industry use.

  • Research talent using platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, TikTok, Instagram, and other relevant digital platforms.

  • Learn how to evaluate talent based on creativity, professionalism, experience, brand, audience, and career readiness.

  • Support the management of Berklee's APM music library by assisting with catalog organization and metadata.

      Imagine the Industry Relations team has been asked to recommend Berklee talent for professional opportunities. Create a pitch deck featuring 3-5 Berklee students or alumni you believe are ready for industry consideration.
      Your selections may include artists, songwriters, producers, instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, DJs, dancers, engineers, or other Berklee creatives.
      For each person, address the following:

      • What makes this individual stand out?

      • What evidence demonstrates momentum or career readiness?

      • What type of opportunity would be a strong fit for them? (Examples: live performance, sessions, sync, management, publishing, showcase, brand partnership, internship, etc.)

      • Why are you recommending this individual?

      • What would you suggest as their next career step?
        Your presentation should be visually engaging, organized, and professional enough to share with an industry partner.

Talent Relations Track 2 (BPMI/TRA)**:

The BPMI/TR Ambassador is a unique Talent Relations position offering operational and administrative support to both the Berklee Popular Music Institute (BPMI) and the Berklee Career Center. The BPMI/TR Ambassador will help facilitate processes between offices, plan events, and conduct thorough research of artists within the Berklee community, and requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week. In addition to the general Talent Relations tasks, the BPMI/TR Ambassador will:

  • Review BPMI artist applications.

  • Create artist pitch decks and prepare pitches for industry-related opportunities.

  • Attend BPMI classes (Wednesdays, 4-6pm)

  • Meet with prospective BPMI artists.

  • Liaise with artists and assist with rehearsal calendar management.

  • Provide event support for both on-campus and off-campus performances.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • **Qualifications:

    • Strongly suggested that applicants have completed all 3 semesters of the BPMI Live program (BPMI-401, 402, and 403)

    • Must have proven ability to work collaboratively with peers.

    • Must be available Wednesdays from 4-6pm in the Fall and Spring semesters.
