Southern Industrial Constructors Inc. is seeking an experienced Director of Training to work out of our Raleigh, NC office.  

The Training Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the company’s training and workforce development strategy to ensure employees possess the skills, knowledge, and certifications required to safely and effectively perform their jobs.  This position oversees training programs across multiple offices and project sites. The Training Director partners closely with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and Leadership to identify skill gaps, develop career pathways, support succession planning initiatives, and strengthen the company's workforce through continuous learning and development.

  • Actively promotes and strengthens our core values and culture of Mission First, People Always through everyday actions and decisions
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors, or customer representatives.
  • Attend meetings, seminars and opportunities to obtain information on the best implementation of company training initiatives and the best, most advanced techniques tools and methods of helping our field workforce work as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Calendar Oversight: Create a companywide multi-department training calendar that ensures streamlined training scheduling periods that interfere with our busy seasons as little as possible, as well as ensure maintenance and continuation of training as needed.
  • Management Development: Create, manage and offer a certification pipeline for applicable employees in all departments. This would include but may not be limited to Project Engineers and Project Managers, finance professionals, safety and quality professionals, etc. This includes but is not limited to certifications like PMP, CAPM and Lean Six Sigma, CSP, CHST, etc.
  • SQP Integration: Align the training team's output with goals for Safety, Quality, and overall Productivity
  • Team Oversight: Manage the instructors who deliver our on-site training.
  • Work with operations and other support departments to ensure that their training is offered up to the same standards and using the same techniques and materials as those in our full-time training department.
  • Assess the benefits of qualifying in-house training through train the trainer type courses / certifications vs. relying on the services of third-party training professionals / certification bodies.
  • Evaluate programs mode of delivery such as in person or virtual to optimize learning effectiveness, costs, or environmental impacts.
  • Maintain training records to support audits, client requests, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, evaluate and record all programs activities and effectiveness.
  • Monitor related costs and prepare budget reports to justify expenditures.
  • Supervise, evaluate and refer instructors towards skill developmental classes.
  • Publish results / newsletters / positive initiatives and progress in the areas of productivity and training to the entire organization on a frequent and regular basis.
  • Ensure consistency of training standards across all locations and project sites
  • Manage NCCER accreditation, curriculum implementation, testing, instructor qualifications, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop relationships with trade schools, community colleges, workforce development boards, and military transition programs.
  • Identify opportunities for grants, workforce funding, and strategic training partnerships.
  • Partner with project teams to identify upcoming workforce training requirements.

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Knowledge of industrial construction craft disciplines and workforce requirements are preferred.
  • Experience with leadership development and supervisory training programs.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, organization systems, training, communication or similar.
  • Ability to develop relationships and influence leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate training effectiveness and ROI.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Comfort working under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective supervisory skills and the ability to manage and mentor staff.
  • At least five years of professional experience in one or both of the areas of training administration and/or efficient / productivity is preferred for the position.
  • Computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, Outlook, database management.

Conditions include working in office, with frequent entry into shops, jobsites, busy traffic areas, and warehouses.   Occasional exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safely access all areas of property.  Must be able to effectively use any required PPE equipment. Jobsite visits are a must.
