What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Campaign Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Campaign Intern, you generally need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of political campaigns or public relations, often supported by coursework in political science or communications. Familiarity with voter database systems like NGP VAN, social media platforms, and office productivity tools is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders and handling fast-paced environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively supporting campaign operations, engaging voters, and contributing to the overall success of the campaign.

What are campaign internships?

Campaign internships are temporary positions, usually for students or recent graduates, that provide hands-on experience working on political campaigns. Interns assist with various tasks such as voter outreach, event planning, research, communications, and administrative support. These internships are an excellent way to learn about the political process, develop professional skills, and build networks within the field. They are often unpaid or offer a small stipend, but provide valuable exposure to the fast-paced environment of political campaigns.

What are some common challenges faced by campaign interns, and how can they be addressed?

Campaign interns often face fast-paced environments with shifting priorities, which can be challenging for those new to political or advocacy work. Balancing multiple tasks such as voter outreach, event planning, and data entry requires strong organizational skills and adaptability. Effective communication with team members and supervisors helps interns stay on track and manage expectations. Proactively seeking feedback and clarification can also make adjusting to the dynamic nature of campaigns much smoother.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to gain hands-on experience in marketing operations and campaign execution.
As a Campaign Specialist, you will play a critical role in building and executing digital marketing campaigns for our college and university partners. You'll collaborate closely with account management, project management, and operations teams to translate data-driven strategies into impactful campaigns that drive student recruitment and enrollment success.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build and execute a high volume of email, SMS, and digital marketing campaigns across multiple clients with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage daily campaign tasks including calendar management, campaign setup, scheduling, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Execute data-buy strategies with major test-based list providers (e.g., The College Board, Encoura).
  • Maintain scalable marketing automation processes, ensuring campaigns follow best practices and established standards.
  • Apply data quality and compliance standards consistently across campaign processes.
  • Monitor campaign performance and email deliverability metrics, providing updates and insights to team members.
  • Support the continuous improvement of campaign workflows and contribute to the Two Ocean Education Partners product roadmap.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience (internship or professional experience in marketing, operations, or technology a plus).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Curious and analytical thinker who asks the right questions to identify solutions.
  • Eagerness to learn new tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
  • Experience with marketing automation platforms, CRM tools, or email service providers.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing metrics and analytics.
  • Exposure to higher education, marketing, or client services environments.

Why Join Two Ocean Education Partners?
At Two Ocean, we share a common mission: expanding access to higher education while helping colleges and universities achieve their goals and better serve students and families. We thrive on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to the success of our partners and teammates.
By joining our team, you'll benefit from:

  • Opportunities to cross-train and grow your career.
  • A collaborative, supportive environment where success is shared.
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact on higher education and student outcomes.
