GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
At Stancil Services, our plumbing teams bring quality and craftsmanship to every phase of construction. The Rough 2nd Man - Plumbing provides essential support during the rough-in stage by assisting lead plumbers with material preparation, pipe installation, measurements, layout, and jobsite organization.
This role is ideal for someone who has foundational plumbing knowledge and is ready to expand their skills in a hands-on environment. The Rough 2nd Man helps ensure every project meets Stancil's standards for accuracy, safety, and efficiency while gaining the experience needed to advance within the plumbing division.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the lead plumber in completing rough-in plumbing installations according to plans, codes, and company standards.
  • Support layout work by taking accurate measurements, marking pipe paths, and preparing materials.
  • Install basic piping, fittings, hangers, and supports under supervision.
  • Help identify and organize materials needed for each phase of the rough-in process.
  • Transport, stage, and distribute tools, equipment, and materials to keep workflow moving efficiently.
  • Cut, thread, glue, or crimp pipes after proper training and direction.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite to support productivity and compliance with Stancil safety standards.
  • Assist with pressure testing and system inspections under supervision.
  • Follow all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and jobsite protocols.
  • Communicate material shortages, site obstacles, or measurement concerns promptly to the lead plumber.
  • Protect customer property and construction surfaces using proper coverings and safety measures.
  • Participate in training and development activities to expand plumbing knowledge and skill.
  • Provide operational coverage in the foreman's absence to keep trucks running and schedules on track.
  • Ensure all tub and shower installations adhere to company guidelines and meet field reference standards.
  • Other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED, college, technical or trade school transcript, or foreign equivalent).
  • Prior plumbing or construction experience preferred but not required-training provided.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing tools, fittings, and materials is beneficial.
  • Ability to follow layout plans, instructions, and rough-in diagrams.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take direction from lead plumbers.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Physical strength and dexterity required for carrying materials, lifting equipment, and performing demanding fieldwork.
  • Valid driver's license for 3+ years and insurable under company insurance policy.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a physical examination and maintain a valid DOT medical card.
  • Willingness to embrace new technology, evolving practices, and growth opportunities within the plumbing division.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed primarily on active construction job sites.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions including heat above 90°F, cold below 32°F, moisture, dust, and varying weather.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, crouching, and lifting heavy materials.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 75+ pounds regularly.
  • Work may occur in crawl spaces, attics, trenches, or elevated areas.
  • Noise levels may range from moderate to loud depending on jobsite activity.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
  • Basic hand tools: pipe cutters, crimping tools, hammers, tape measures, levels, utility knives, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, jackhammer and camera.
  • Power tools under supervision: drills, impacts, saws, plumbing snake, compact threader.
  • PPE: hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, boots, hearing protection, high-visibility vest.
  • Jobsite equipment such as ladders, carts, and material-handling devices.
  • Company-issued technology as required (tablet, phone, or communication tools).
