Job Summary
Under close supervision, performs entry-level skilled work in the operation of jetter-vacuum combination trucks and other heavy equipment used in the maintenance of sanitary sewer collection systems.
Responsibilities
JetVac Operator Apprentice
Operates heavy maintenance equipment such as jetter-vacuum combination trucks and similar equipment in a safe manner under direction of a qualified operator. Assists in maintaining wastewater sewer systems and lift stations through the operation of vacuum systems and high-water pressure equipment to remove grease, debris, and other matter that builds up inside sewer collection lines and lift station wet wells. Identifies problem areas and handles the cleaning and unclogging of new and aging sewer systems with high-powered combination jetter-vacuum trucks or jetter equipment under direction of a qualified operator. Performs general maintenance of the assigned jetter-vacuum combination truck or jetter equipment, including lubrication, refueling, cleaning, washing unit, etc. Performs routine equipment inspections and reports and documents malfunctions immediately. Performs confined space entries into the sanitary sewer collection system for inspection and cleaning as necessary. Identifies the presence of noxious and hazardous gases, liquids, and solids found in sanitary sewer systems and takes appropriate safety precautions. Attends to customer emergency and trouble calls related to the sanitary sewer system and resolves system problems in a polite and professional manner. Records accurately daily activities and work performed. Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (Including nights, weekends, and holidays). Completes other job duties as assigned.

Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (Including nights, weekends, and holidays). Sets up traffic control devices and directs traffic at assigned work areas. Completes other job duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.Knowledge of methods and techniques effective in the inspection and maintenance of sanitary sewer manholes and sewer collection pipelines. Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to sewer maintenance operations.Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned job tasks.Skill in the use and application of available information and tools to determine sewer line location.Effective oral and written communication skills in English, bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.Ability to operate Jetter-Vacuum equipment under direct supervision of qualified operator.Ability to respond to customers in a polite and professional manner.Ability to properly utilize personal protective equipment.
Education & Experience Requirements
JetVac Operator Apprentice
High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and six (6) months of labor experience.
JetVac OperatorHigh School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and one (1) year experience in the operation of Jetter Vacuum combination trucks in the maintenance of sanitary sewer systems.
Senior JetVac OperatorHigh School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and two (2) years of experience in the operation of Jetter Vacuum combination trucks in the maintenance of sanitary sewer systems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
JetVac Operator ApprenticeRequires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver's License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. Employee must obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License Class B and Tank Endorsement within two (2) years of employment.

Requires a valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with Tank Endorsement or receipt within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. Must possess a Wastewater Collections I license from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TECQ), within two (2) years of obtaining the position.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to walk up and down stairs as many as 50 times per day and carry up to 75 lbs. of tools and equipment. Ability to pull out pumps weighing up to 100 lbs. or more with help if available. Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend at waist, bend knees, lift, pull and push up to approximately 50 lbs. is required. Manual dexterity, good eye vision, a good uninterrupted loud voice, and good hearing conditions from low-level decibel to a high level of decibel are required. Ability to work in ambient conditions from 20 to up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Stretch reaching, overhead reaching, placing the body in awkward positions to perform work, working in elevated places, walking on level surfaces, and climbing stairways are required. Good physical condition to do continuous physical work for a minimum of eight hours is required. Must wear and properly utilize all required safety equipment including personal protective gear, trench protection, fall protection, self-contained breathing apparatus, and gas detection and monitoring equipment. Must pass the annual fit test requirements for the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus and/or respirator.
