Job Responsibilities

  • Excavator Operation โ€” Operate excavators to dig trenches, foundations, and utility lines with precision.
  • Water & Drain Line Identification โ€” Locate, identify, and verify water mains, sewer lines, and drainage systems before and during excavation.
  • Leadership Duties โ€” Act as onโ€‘site foreman; coordinate laborers, communicate with supervisors, and ensure tasks are completed to plan.
  • Shoring Setup โ€” Install, inspect, and maintain trench shoring systems to protect workers and maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Site Preparation โ€” Clear, grade, and prepare job sites; remove debris and support layout activities.
  • Material Handling โ€” Load trucks, move materials, and support multiโ€‘equipment operations.
  • Equipment Inspection โ€” Perform daily inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Safety Compliance โ€” Enforce safety protocols, PPE requirements, and trench safety regulations.
  • Team Coordination โ€” Direct ground crews, signal operators, and maintain clear communication across the job site.

Qualifications

  • Heavy Equipment Experience โ€” 3โ€“5 years operating excavators and working around underground utilities.
  • Utility Knowledge โ€” Ability to read utility plans, identify water and sewer lines, and work safely around live services.
  • Licensing โ€” Valid driver's license; OSHA 10/30 preferred; trench safety certification a plus.

  • Technical Skills โ€” Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans.
  • Physical Capability โ€” Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and handle physically demanding tasks.
