Job Summary:

The Business Segment Controller serves as the strategic finance partner to the Business Manager, providing the insight and analysis needed to drive informed decisions and enhance overall profitability. This role leads all financial operations for the business segment, including planning, implementing, and overseeing daytoday financial activities. Responsibilities span accounting, financial management, forecasting, strategic planning, and cost accounting, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and alignment with the business segment's long-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with the Business Manager to drive unit performance in achieving budgeted and forecasted financial targets
  • Lead and oversee all finance and accounting activities, taking hands-on ownership of critical tasks and ensuring operational excellence across the function
  • Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and analyses, providing meaningful insights into budgets, trends, and forecast performance while collaborating with sales and operations teams
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the executive team and make actionable recommendation on both strategy and operations
  • Continuously evaluate short- and longterm financial objectives to ensure alignment with business strategy and growth goals
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities
  • Ensure effective internal controls and maintain compliance with GAAP, SOX, ASC 606, and all relevant federal, state, and local reporting regulations
  • Lead working capital management initiatives
  • Participate in Physical inventories
  • Review spending requests for capital expenditures, research and development projects, and major expense projects and provide financial guidance on business unit investments
  • Support special initiatives, including acquisition evaluations, financial modeling, and preparation of executive-level reports
  • Supervise and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a high-performance and continuous-improvement culture

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive financial experience with at least 2 years in a financial management and leadership role
  • Extensive experience in both cost and financial accounting, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting within a manufacturing or industrial context
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX, and ASC 606 - experience with monthly/quarterly closings; experience with compliance and documentation

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • Oracle and HFM background
  • Experience developing forecasts, budgets and long-term strategic plans
  • Computer skills - pivot tables, look-up formulas
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and draw conclusions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs
