Internal Business Analyst (Operations, Process Improvement & Automation)

CompassX Group

Irvine, CA

Full-time

Job description

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we’ve expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

We're hiring a motivated internally facing Business Analyst to learn how CompassX actually runs — across Consulting Operations, Sales, Talent, and more — by getting hands-on with the work itself, then using that ground-level view to identify what's inefficient, recommend a better way, and build it.

This isn't a role where you sit outside the work and hand off recommendations to someone else. You'll learn our processes from the inside, spot where they break down, bring forward a clear fix, and then help make it real. As a small firm, you'll get exposure across nearly every function — no task is too small or too big. It's a high-visibility role with direct exposure to firm leadership from day one.

What You'll Do
  • Get hands-on across teams - Consulting Operations, Sales, Talent, and beyond - to genuinely understand how work moves before trying to change it.
  • Identify where processes are inefficient, inconsistent, or breaking down, and diagnose why.
  • Bring forward clear, practical recommendations for how to fix what's broken or slow.
  • Build and implement the fix yourself — whether that's a new process, a piece of documentation, or a lightweight automation.
  • Document how key processes work, so decisions and institutional knowledge don't live only in one person's head.
  • Partner with leadership and team leads across functions to understand priorities and turn them into real, working improvements.
  • Use CRM, spreadsheets, and lightweight automation/AI tools (e.g., Zapier, Make, Claude, Gemini, Google Apps Script) as needed to bring recommendations to life.
What You'll Bring
  • 1+ year of experience in operations, business analysis, process improvement, or a similar hands-on role - new grads strongly encouraged to apply.
  • A genuine curiosity for how things work, and the instinct to diagnose the root cause rather than just patch the symptom.
  • Comfortable using (or quickly learning) a CRM, spreadsheet tools, and lightweight automation/AI tools.
  • Excellent written communication - comfortable documenting processes clearly and presenting recommendations.
  • Highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented - you like understanding systems and making them better.
  • A confident and diplomatic communicator - you'll be working across teams and leadership, tactfully and persistently.
  • Takes initiative without being asked, identifies opportunities, and moves work forward independently.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, shifting priorities, and quickly learning new tools or approaches.
  • No ego about the work - you'll take on a genuine mix of tasks, from high-visibility process improvements to basic administrative work, and treat both with the same care.
Why CompassX
  • A front-row seat to how a consulting firm builds its from the ground up. You'll help shape it, not just execute someone else's playbook.
  • Direct, regular access to firm leadership and real ownership over a function they depend on.

The posted range reflects the anticipated compensation for this opportunity. Depending on the role, client requirements, and business needs, compensation may be structured as a salaried position with bonus eligibility or as an hourly contract engagement (including 1099 independent contractor arrangements).

Final compensation and engagement type will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, market conditions, and the nature of the role.

Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX’s focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won’t just follow a path - you’ll create one.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
