The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for working with their assigned business units (covering IA, NE, SD, MO) to understand the business strategy and to identify opportunities to increase talent management, organizational effectiveness, and productivity. The HRBP is responsible for developing and executing human capital strategies and activities that enable growth, innovation, and overall organization effectiveness.ย  Additionally, the HRBP drives corporate led initiatives with the team and communicates how these programs fit in with the overall business and HR strategy and assures the organizations compliance with all human resource legal and regulatory requirements.ย ย 

Location: This can report out of our Council Bluffs, IA or Omaha, NE branch

Compensation: Base salary, plus incentive plan potentialย 

Essential Functions

  • Communicate across all levels, collaborate across boundaries and geographies while working with colleagues across the business and the HR team. ย 
  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity in all situations deemed, as necessary.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Oversees talent acquisition process for assigned business units, ensuring management understanding of process.ย 
  • Assist with Onboarding and Orientation of new hires.
  • Partner with Training and development to conduct and/or facilitate training on HR-related topics such as performance management, leadership, interviewing, HR policies, etc.
  • Maintain awareness of culture, plans, financial position, within the assigned business units.
  • Recommends solutions to ensure a positive and supportive work environment that promotes high levels of productivity, integrity, and mutual respect. Anticipates challenges and proactively seeks improvements impacting management, increasing productivity, efficiencies, and retention.
  • Collaborates with managers to investigate associate relations and disciplinary actions. Partners with the VP of HR to determine appropriate course of action.
  • Partner with Sonepar HR Operations Teamย on payroll, timekeeping, and benefitย issues.
  • Conducts separation notices, exit interviews, turnover reports and manages the communication of feedback to the appropriate managers.
  • Assist with the annual performance review process by training managers on guidelines, making sure that reviews are conducted timely and coaching leadership on the process via SuccessFactors/Sonepeople HCM system.ย 
  • Conduct talent reviews and succession planning for assigned business units.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of diversity initiatives within assigned regions.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment; ensures all material is completed. Keeps associates informed of benefit options, programs, and critical information.
  • Oversee Engagement Survey and action items for assigned Regions.
  • Recommend engagement and retention activities based on location results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel as needed.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Industrial Relations, or related field.
  • 5-8 plus years of broad-based HR experience, and knowledge of HRIS applications.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws, payroll & payroll tax laws, personnel record keeping principles and practices, and related local, state, and federal regulations coupled with the ability to appropriately translate this understanding into action.
  • Commitment to and demonstration of high ethical standards governing professional behavior and interactions, including the ability to maintain information in a confidential manner.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Proven proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Proven proficiency in the use of human resource information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, including an ability to plan and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven attentiveness to detail coupled with problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all organizational members.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex human resource documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to highly sensitive inquiries or complaints in a team environment.

Desirable Qualficiations

  • SHRM-CP certification.
  • Experience providing HR consultation and partnership to business leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong business acumen, HR, and Organization Development expertise with proficiency in multiple disciplines within HR.
  • Experience conducting investigations.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.

Physical Ability Requirements

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, adding machine, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally climb a ladder and step stool.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 25 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 25 lbs.
