SEO Manager
Location: Chesapeake, VA - In-Office
Salary: $75,000
Type: Full-Time
About Map Communications:
Map Communications is a U.S.-based communications services company providing professional call handling and multi-channel customer engagement to businesses across a wide range of industries. Map supports businesses with inbound and outbound communications, lead capture, scheduling, and customer experience services. The company focuses on helping clients improve responsiveness, protect revenue opportunities, and deliver consistent, high-quality interactions across channels.
As a multi-brand organization, Map Communications manages and maintains a diverse portfolio of websites that play a critical role in demand generation, brand visibility, and revenue growth. Digital performance, including search engine visibility, is an important component of how Map reaches prospective customers, supports its sales teams, and positions its brands competitively in a variety of markets.
Position Summary:
The SEO Manager leads search optimization strategy for Map Communications' portfolio of websites, managing the external agencies and crafting internal efforts to drive overall visibility and organic leads.
This role combines portfolio-level strategy with hands-on technical and content work, and includes ownership of audits, on-page and technical optimizations, keyword and content strategy, and performance reporting.
The SEO Manager will develop and maintain SEO roadmaps that align with business goals, identify the highest-value opportunities across multiple domains, and translate audits and analyses into prioritized, implementable task lists.
In addition to traditional SEO, the SEO Manager will evaluate and incorporate emerging search practices such as Generative Engine Optimization and Answer Engine Optimization. This includes auditing content and site infrastructure for AI and answer-engine discoverability, implementing structured data and semantic markup, and working with development teams to support machine-oriented crawlability and content APIs.
What Success Looks Like:
In this role, success means taking independent ownership of our SEO agencies, ensuring their work is fully aligned, accountable, measurable, and continuously guided by your expert feedback and approvals. You will establish a clear roadmap where internal SEO initiatives are documented and meticulously prioritized based on enterprise impact, while consistently identifying and resolving both technical and on-page issues. Ultimately, your efforts will directly drive improvements in organic visibility, traffic, and conversion performance across our portfolio of brands, backed by clear, consistent performance reporting that keeps leadership informed and aligned on our growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Agency Management
  • Manage external SEO agencies supporting portfolio websites, including attending recurring meetings, reviewing deliverables, and providing structured feedback.
  • Ensure agency strategies and execution align with Map Communications' revenue goals and marketing priorities.
  • Track agency progress against defined initiatives and timelines.
  • Consolidate agency outputs into clear summaries and performance updates.

Portfolio SEO Strategy and Execution
  • Develop, execute, and refine SEO strategies to improve organic rankings, traffic, and conversions across multiple brand websites.
  • Prioritize SEO initiatives based on enterprise impact and growth opportunities.
  • Conduct regular site audits to identify technical and on-page SEO issues.
  • Partner with internal web and marketing teams to implement and validate improvements across the portfolio.

Technical and On-Page SEO
  • Identify and address technical SEO issues including crawlability, indexation, site structure, redirects, page performance, and schema.
  • Optimize on-page elements such as metadata, internal linking, heading structure, and content formatting.
  • Ensure SEO best practices are incorporated into site updates, launches, and ongoing maintenance.

AI, GEO, and AEO Optimization
  • Audit existing content and site infrastructure for AI and answer-engine discoverability.
  • Optimize content and structure to improve machine readability, semantic clarity, and entity relationships.
  • Partner with web development teams to support AI-oriented crawlability strategies, including structured data, semantic markup, and sitemap optimization.

Research, Analysis, and Reporting
  • Conduct keyword research to identify new search priorities.
  • Perform competitive analysis to identify content gaps and ranking opportunities.
  • Track and report on SEO and GEO performance metrics such as organic traffic, rankings, share of voice, mention rate, and citation rate.
  • Provide regular performance reporting and insights to marketing leadership.

Requirements:
  • SEO experience in B2B SaaS.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing large-scale SEO strategies.
  • Deep understanding of technical SEO optimizations with a clear track record of driving growth.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex SEO strategies to stakeholders at all levels.
