Job description

SMX is seeking a mission-oriented Director of Business Development & Capture with experience growing high-visibility, mission-focused, technologies by driving and shaping, complex deals with DoD and IC customers. You will play a vital role in creating a safer tomorrow though offering digital solutions related to real-time data processing and visualization, space-ground systems, and other related joint and/or all-domain operations. Preferred locations: DC Metro or Northern Virginia. This is a Hybrid role. Travel expectations are 30% to visit customers and SMX offices for collaboration on key initiatives. This position identifies, qualifies and captures government acquisitions for our Space and Intel team.
 
The ideal candidate must be able to leverage a deep mission understanding of customers' needs and objectives focused on the areas of Cloud Development, Research and Development, and Future Architectures to support mission needs. Efforts include driving capture and proposal readiness from early positioning and shaping efforts, to development and implementation of win strategies. Proven track record of successful business development, capture and proposal management on $5M- $100M bids, while orchestrating multi-disciplined resourcing against pipeline priorities. 
 
Responsibilities are primarily focused on being an individual contributor, but it is important to be able to work in a team setting and leveraging the skills of other team members throughout the organization. You will be a conduit and work closely with the business units and growth teams leveraging SMX processes and tools.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform market analysis, strategic business planning, capture strategy/solution development, customer engagement and support proposal responses.
  • This position will include oversight of customer contact and positioning, management of your opportunity pipeline, forecasting, and capture management.
  • Comfortable working with Business Development, Financial, Proposal, Product, Contracts, and Engineering. Keeps progress updated in CRM (Salesforce)
  • Work in a SCIF from time to time or remote, and communicate via phone and Teams for virtual meetings and travel to meet customers and key personnel for in person meetings.
  • Travel to trade conferences and shows to represent the company in front of industry partners and customers.
  • Research Govwin, NXTLS, Deltek, OUSD and customer sites to find customer information and budget information to build and maintain sales pipeline.

Required Skills & Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum 6+ years combined experience with any of the following: strategic capture, business development, proposal development, and/or solutions development. 
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance. Active TS with SCI eligible also acceptable.
  • Minimum 4+ years in DOD or IC Community.
  • Understanding of the full business development lifecycle competitive landscape and existing contracts within one or multiple of the following markets: USSF, NRO, Space Domain Awareness, or COCOMs.
  • Prior experience with structured Business Development and Capture Methodologies. (Shipley, Hi-Q, Consultative Selling, etc)
  • Successful experience interacting with and briefing senior government and industry acquisition officials. Includes ability to build and deliver technical briefs with Subject matter expert's support.
  • Proactive, organized, polished presentation skills with ability to build trusting relationships across industry.
  • Experience joining winning teams as a sub, nontraditional or as a prime, as the primary face of the company.
  • Key driver of RFI's, RFQ's, or Capability based response processes.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, while maintaining a positive attitude, and strong drive for results with a sense of urgency.
  • Collaborative and proactive work across SMX teams to achieve broader company growth objectives and provide a strong foundation for customer success during execution.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrate teamwork, innovation and excellence. Interacts well with Engineering and Subject Matter Experts within the company and across partnerships.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong existing networking of contacts within one of the following markets: USSF, NRO, Space Domain Awareness, or COCOMs.
  • Experienced in developing strategic partnerships with other companies in the defense community.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and brief them to new customer groups to build trust.
  • Veterans or Intelligence Community Prior service strongly encouraged them to apply.
