What does a broadband engineer do?

A broadband engineer designs, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots high-speed internet networks, including fiber optic, cable, and wireless systems. They often work with network hardware, perform site surveys, and ensure network performance and security, requiring technical skills and relevant certifications. Their work environment typically involves fieldwork and collaboration with other technical teams.

What engineers make $500,000?

Broadband engineers typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are more common in executive or specialized roles within the tech or telecommunications industries. Senior-level engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities may approach high six-figure or low seven-figure compensation, especially with bonuses and stock options.

What Do Broadband Engineers Do?

The duties of a broadband engineer are to install, maintain, and repair a telecommunications network. They are often responsible for ensuring the telecommunications connection is functioning correctly, creating user accounts, and monitoring network activity. Other responsibilities of a broadband engineer are to compile, code, and verify collected data. The qualifications to become a broadband engineer often include a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications or a related field and experience in network or software development.

How much does a broadband engineer make?

A broadband engineer's average salary varies by location and experience but typically ranges from $50,000 to $80,000 annually. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced engineers with certifications and specialized skills can earn higher wages, often supplemented by overtime or on-call pay.

What are some common challenges Broadband Engineers face when maintaining network performance?

Broadband Engineers often encounter challenges such as minimizing network downtime, troubleshooting complex connectivity issues, and balancing multiple tasks like upgrades and repairs. They must stay updated with evolving technologies and quickly adapt to new equipment or protocols. Effective communication with cross-functional teams and customers is essential, especially when coordinating large-scale installations or addressing service disruptions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Broadband Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Broadband Engineer, you need expertise in network infrastructure, telecommunications protocols, and a relevant engineering degree or certification such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+. Familiarity with tools like spectrum analyzers, network management software, and fiber optic testing equipment is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help engineers excel in troubleshooting and collaborating with clients and teams. These skills ensure reliable broadband service delivery, minimize downtime, and support the rapid resolution of technical issues.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, and aerospace engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and in high-demand industries. Executive-level engineering roles or those with significant managerial responsibilities may also reach or exceed this salary level.

Job description

Millwork Engineer

We’re hiring a Millwork Engineer with experience in high-end residential or commercial millwork to produce accurate, buildable shop drawings and support the successful execution of custom projects from design intent through fabrication and installation. This role requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work across multiple projects while coordinating with Project Managers, the Engineering Manager, fabricators, and other internal teams.

You will be expected to interpret architectural and designer intent quickly and accurately, identify conflicts or construction issues early, and develop drawing packages that support clean approvals, efficient fabrication, and strong field outcomes. This role requires disciplined execution, adaptability, and clear communication in a fast-moving environment.

We’re looking for a long-term fit who is collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Our interview process is thorough, and we appreciate your patience as we ensure a strong fit for both sides.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Engineering + Drawing Production

  • Create accurate 2D CAD drawings for interior and exterior millwork for new construction, remodels, and restoration projects
  • Prepare drawing packages for internal review, client approval, and fabrication
  • Interpret architectural and designer drawings, renderings, models, sketches, and specifications quickly and accurately
  • Translate design intent into practical, buildable engineering solutions that support fabrication and installation realities

Design Coordination + Problem Solving

  • Identify design, construction, and coordination issues early and communicate practical solutions
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and Project Management team to determine the best engineering approach for each project
  • Adapt to shifting project scope, revisions, and changing priorities while maintaining accuracy and momentum
  • Revise drawings based on internal feedback, architect and designer comments, and field measurements

Cross-Team Communication

  • Coordinate with Project Managers across multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and fabricators to keep work aligned
  • Support smooth information flow between design, engineering, production, and field teams
  • Maintain clear, organized drawing revisions and documentation throughout the engineering process

Standards + Execution

  • Maintain and promote company core values, standards, and practices
  • Work with accuracy, urgency, and accountability to support deadlines and production flow
  • Work overtime as required to support project needs

WHAT IT TAKES

  • 5+ years of millwork engineering experience required
  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD
  • Experience with 3D AutoCAD or other 3D software is a plus, but not required
  • Strong understanding of interior millwork and cabinet construction, including applicable hardware
  • Experience with exterior millwork is a plus, but not required
  • Experience working with glass, metal, upholstery, and other specialty materials is a plus, but not required
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, interior design, and shop drawings, specifications, and related project documents
  • Ability to multitask and communicate effectively with multiple Project Managers across multiple projects
  • Team player who can follow direction, collaborate well, and contribute to a strong internal culture
  • Self-motivated and able to work efficiently with and without direct supervision
  • English required; bilingual is a plus, but not required
  • High level of honesty, professionalism, and a positive attitude

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive Base Pay (DOE)
  • Performance Pay (Variable compensation pinned to business results)
  • Benefits Package – Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401(k), paid holidays, sick time, vacation
  • Schedule – Full Time, Exempt
  • Location – Los Angeles / Newbury Park area, in office
  • Start Date – Immediate

HOW YOU’LL GROW

This role is designed to grow with the company. As MBD evolves, you’ll have the opportunity to strengthen engineering standards, refine drawing workflows, expand your technical range across complex custom projects, and help build a more disciplined and scalable preproduction process.
