What Is a Brand Strategist?

A brand strategist creates a long-term marketing strategy for a company’s brand, such as its image, product line, and advertisements. Your duties are to analyze data regarding your target demographic, your sales figures, and known marketing trends. Or you gather data yourself in the form of customer surveys. You use the data to recommend how the company proceeds to build its brand, such as with a new product or service, new advertisement campaigns, and other information. You work closely with the marketing department and brainstorm new marketing ideas. If your company is active on social media, you work with the social media coordinator to determine how to use social media effectively to reach your target demographic.

Job description

About Nen Creative

Nen Creative partners with tech startups to launch bold ideas into the world, creating the brands, products, and stories that fuel their growth.

Since 2022, we've partnered with some of the world's top founders and institutions, including Amazon, Pear VC, Andreessen Horowitz, Mercor, Context Inc, Netic, Listen Labs, Tech Week, Mantis VC, Spur, Flora, and more.

We're growing fast and looking for great people to join us.

About the Opportunity

We're looking for a Brand Strategist to lead the strategy practice at Nen.

The work centers on brand strategy for our branding engagements — positioning, narrative, audience, messaging, and the underlying point of view that gives a company its voice in the world. From there, the strategy extends into the marketing and copywriting that brings each brand to life across websites, decks, launch campaigns, and the various touchpoints our clients ship. You'll lead client engagements end-to-end, from discovery and research through final execution, working with founders who are often figuring out what they stand for and how to talk about it in public for the first time.

What You'll Do
  • Lead brand strategy engagements for our branding clients — positioning, narrative, audience, messaging frameworks, brand voice, and identity briefs

  • Run discovery and research to get to a strategy: founder interviews, audience research, competitive landscape, brand audits, and stakeholder workshops

  • Develop marketing strategy for clients across launch campaigns, content programs, channel mix, and go-to-market storytelling, building on the brand foundation

  • Write copy across websites, decks, brand books, launch materials, and other touchpoints — landing pages, manifestos, product narratives, taglines, and short-form social

  • Brief and partner with our brand designers and creative leads so that strategy translates cleanly into identity, design, and the rest of the work we ship

  • Partner with our producers, motion team, and editors to make sure brand language and voice carry through every output

  • Help scope strategy work inside larger branding and production engagements, balancing depth with feasibility

  • Support new business when strategy is part of the pitch, helping shape opportunities from inquiry through close

  • Push the work beyond the obvious. We value people with strong taste, sharp thinking, and the appetite to refine a positioning line until it actually lands

What We're Looking For
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in brand strategy, ideally at a brand or marketing consultancy, strategy-led studio, or in-house at a fast-moving company

  • Strong portfolio of brand strategy work — positioning, narrative, messaging frameworks, brand voice, and the briefs that bridge strategy into identity

  • Deep understanding of how brand strategy translates into identity, voice, and design, and how to brief and partner with designers to bring it to life

  • Strong copywriter across long-form and short-form, with writing samples that demonstrate range across narrative, web, decks, and brand

  • Marketing strategy fundamentals — audience, positioning, gtm, channels, funnel, and how brand strategy connects to launch, content, and performance

  • Strong research instincts. You know how to design discovery for a new client, ask the right questions in a founder interview, and pull insights from a messy landscape into a clear point of view

  • Confident client-facing presence. You can lead a workshop with a founder and a leadership team, hold the room, and push back when it matters

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving agency environment where timelines shift, scopes evolve, and projects sometimes require after-hours responsiveness

  • Self-directed and remote-ready. You can run your own discovery, manage your own timelines, and keep clients aligned without constant supervision

  • Calm, organized, and dependable under pressure, with the ability to keep multiple projects and stakeholders moving at once

  • High attention to detail in writing, frameworks, and client deliverables

Why Join Nen
  • Be part of a small, fast-growing creative studio trusted by world-class startups and investors

  • Work directly with the partners on ambitious, high-impact projects across some of the most interesting companies in tech

  • Lead and define the strategy practice at Nen, with real ownership over how we approach the work and how the team grows

  • Help shape the brands, narratives, and stories of the next generation of tech companies

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), PTO, and company holidays
