Job description

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer to work in the Water/Wastewater Division in the Charlotte, NC area. The successful candidate will be responsible for the completion of specific project tasks as assigned by the Project Manager. In this position, the candidate will interface with the estimating division (Project Engineers will gain/enhance experience in estimating), Operations Coordinator (administrative functions are required to complete many assigned tasks) and the Project Superintendent.

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily performs duties in planning for commercial projects.
  • Maintain project logs (i.e. Submittal Log, RFI log, etc.).
  • Maintain and update schedules.
  • Identify need for and write RFI’s.
  • Prepare, review and process shop drawings.
  • Maintain as-built drawings.
  • Collect and assemble O&M materials.
  • Purchase Order and Subcontract Scope analysis and drafting.
  • Material purchasing and expediting.
  • Document distribution.
  • Value engineering design and proposals.
  • Coordinating with Subcontractors and Vendors.
  • Contract document distribution to job site, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Visits project sites to monitor progress conformance to plans and standards.
  • Coordinate facility startup activities.
  • Provide the Project Manager with support and accurate information to maximize project management effectiveness.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Ability to learn P6 scheduling software.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents and plans.
  • Familiarity with construction platform software.
  • Bluebeam software experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1-2 years of experience as Project Engineer preferred.
