Job description

Here at Mid-City Electric, you're not just joining a company; you're joining a community that takes pride in building something bigger together. Collaboration, respect, and ownership are at the heart of everything we do.
Our people-first culture has earned us recognition as a five-time Top Workplace, but what really sets us apart is how much we invest in our team's growth, well-being, and success.
If you're ready to join a team where your work matters, your ideas are valued, and your career can truly grow, we want to hear from you.
VLC Coordinator
We are seeking a VLC (Virtual Layout Construction) Coordinator to support the planning, coordination, and execution of virtual construction layout activities for commercial construction projects. This role plays a key part in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration between design and field teams. With a supportive culture, this role is an excellent opportunity to grow your career with a company that values innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Read and interpret project specifications. Communicate and review findings with the project management team if needed. Follow up with outstanding RFIs and ensure the preconstruction layout meets specified job requirements.
  • Review RFIs, PRs, and Bulletins and update preconstruction drawings.
  • Review and understand the functionality of project distribution systems through one-line interpretation. Check engineered conduit and wire sizing against NEC and voltage drop requirements. Work with the project management team to submit RFIs on discrepancies. Complete a Master Feeder Schedule for the project. Use Bluebeam to draw in preferred feeder conduit routing.
  • Determine NEC-acceptable circuit groupings, conduit and wire sizing, and preferred conduit routing for branch circuits. Then, create branch conduit schedules for individual branch panels on the project.
  • Review equipment submittals to verify actual equipment requirements are met by the engineered electrical provisions.
  • Produce accurate lighting control and fire alarm conduit layouts for field installation.
  • Layout in-wall and ceiling rough prefabrication for branch power, lighting, data, security, and fire alarm components.
  • Enter prefabrication assemblies into the Mid-City Prefab website to be built. Coordinate with field and project schedule to allow adequate time for component fabrication and delivery to the site.
  • Produce prefabrication installation drawings to be sent with prefabricated products to the field.
  • Create 2D Bluebeam drawings of project-specific prefabricated components.
  • Contribute to department innovation and expanding prefabricated product advancements.

Key Experience Needed to Hit the Ground Running:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical field work in a commercial construction setting
  • Ability to read and interpret prints
  • Comfortability with computers and ability to understand software quickly after training

What Would Make You Shine:

  • 5+ years of electrical field work in a commercial construction setting

What Would Earn You Continued Career Growth Development:

  • Demonstrating keen attention to detail
  • Fostering teamwork
  • Accepting constructive feedback in a professional and meaningful way
  • Commitment to the company's core values of Exceptional Work Ethic, Always Doing the Right Thing, Customer Service Driven, and Treating Our People Like Family.

This position requires in-office attendance; remote work is not available.
Why You Should Work at Mid-City Electric:
