Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Commercial Fit-OutJob Description
This role oversees the commercial construction fit-out of an existing bioscience facility, transforming former office spaces and classrooms into updated, functional environments. The Construction Superintendent coordinates and directs all on-site activities, ensuring that interior renovations, structural modifications, and building system upgrades are completed safely, on schedule, and to a high standard of quality.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day on-site construction activities for the fit-out of existing office spaces and classrooms within a bioscience center.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the installation of new interior walls, doors, and windows, as well as the removal or modification of existing partitions.
- Manage and direct subcontractors and trades to ensure work aligns with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Coordinate HVAC upgrades and other building system modifications, ensuring proper sequencing with structural and interior work.
- Monitor project progress, proactively identify issues, and implement solutions to keep the project on schedule and within scope.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure workmanship, safety practices, and materials meet project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including field teams and office-based personnel, to provide updates and resolve on-site challenges.
- Review construction documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate execution in the field.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site, enforcing compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Document daily activities, progress, and site conditions to support project tracking and reporting.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a superintendent in commercial construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate multiple trades on active construction sites.
- Strong understanding of interior fit-out work, including adding and removing walls, doors, and windows.
- Experience overseeing HVAC and other building system installations or modifications.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and related documents.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with field teams and project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to keep projects on schedule.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards on site.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience working on renovation or retrofit projects within occupied or previously occupied buildings.
- Experience in managing fit-out projects in specialized facilities such as bioscience, laboratory, or institutional environments.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project needs and handle unexpected site conditions.
- Proficiency in documenting daily site activities and progress.
Work Environment
This position is based on-site at a bioscience center undergoing interior fit-out and renovation. The work involves managing construction activities in former office and classroom spaces that are being updated with new walls, doors, windows, and HVAC systems. The environment includes active construction areas with typical job site conditions such as noise, dust, and the use of construction tools and equipment. The role requires regular presence on the job site during standard construction hours, with potential need for flexibility depending on project milestones and sequencing.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $52.00 - $53.00/hr.
