Essential Functions
The Department of Biomechanics and the NIH COBRE Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB) at the University of Nebraska Omaha invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in cardiovascular science.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and serve as a Research Project Leader (RPL) within CRiB. The candidate will establish and sustain a nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program and foster collaborative partnerships, including with clinical partners at neighboring medical centers. Additional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Cardiovascular Biomechanics and related fields, mentoring students and research personnel, and contributing to departmental, university, and professional service.

The research statement should clearly describe how the candidate's work complements and enhances ongoing research within CRiB.

UNO's Department of Biomechanics is one of the few academic departments dedicated entirely to Biomechanics in the United States. It offers undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Biomechanics, and Biomechanics & Kinesiology. The Department has a strong focus on research, and over half of its tenure-track and tenured faculty are Principal Investigators on major federal grants, including NIH R01s. Since its inception in 2016, the Department has grown to 21 tenure-track and tenured faculty who have acquired over $60 million in federal funding. The Department occupies the Biomechanics Research Building, which has 53,000 square feet of shared laboratory space, offices, and collaboration space dedicated to translational biomedical research. The building is located within a two-mile radius of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Western Iowa-Nebraska Veterans' Affairs Medical Center. This close proximity facilitates exceptional access to collaborating clinicians, patients, clinical data, and tissues. Biomechanics faculty enjoy light teaching loads, open access to a wide variety of equipment, and interactions with a diverse body of students and faculty from multiple UN campuses.

Required Qualifications
At the time of appointment, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Materials), Physiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a closely related field, or an M.D. (or equivalent clinical doctorate) with substantial research training (e.g., physician-scientist track). Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of experimental research in cardiovascular science.
Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, robotics, sensors for cardiovascular monitoring; cardiovascular devices and biomaterials; cardiovascular pathophysiology; tissue and cellular biomechanics; bioreactor systems with translational applications; vascular biology and mechanobiology; hemodynamics and cardiovascular fluid mechanics; cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics; computational modeling integrated with experimental validation; regenerative medicine and tissue engineering; and translational or preclinical cardiovascular research.
Candidates whose research complements or extends the Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB)'s focus on cardiovascular biomechanics, materials, devices, and translational science are strongly encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral training (or equivalent research experience) and a demonstrated record of securing extramural funding are highly desirable.
