Essential Duties
Angelo State University's Department of Mathematics is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics or Computer Science to join a research team working on a U.S. Department of Defense-funded project in Graph and Matroid Theory. The selected students will work closely with faculty from ASU to complete research in these areas and other topics of interest to the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in building and testing a library of SZF-matroidal graphs and SZF-realizable matroids
  • Support development of software tools and design tests under faculty guidance
  • Participate in and contribute to research discussions
  • Typeset mathematical proofs and exposition
  • Read and check mathematical writing for clarity and correctness
  • Collaboration on publications and conference presentations
  • Present findings in reports, posters, papers, or conferences

Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship required in accordance with federal contract requirements
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Mathematics or Computer Science program, or related program
  • All students who are awarded assistantships must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate coursework at Angelo State during the terms of their appointments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong interest in combinatorics and mathematics research

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or experience in writing mathematical proofs
  • Coursework or experience in discrete mathematics, graph theory, or combinatorics
  • Knowledge of Python, Sage, or LaTeX
  • A willingness to learn new mathematical and computational techniques

$14 / hour
