Job description

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a mission-driven non-profit organization. This role will oversee key accounting functions, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support grant tracking and compliance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting experience, leadership capability, and proficiency in Bill.com and Sage Intacct.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the general ledger and ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial data
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes, including review and approval
  • Lead and execute the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights to leadership on financial performance
  • Support grant accounting, including tracking revenue and expenses, preparing grant reports, and ensuring proper allocations
  • Assist with grant billing and compliance requirements
  • Prepare documentation and serve as a key point of contact for annual audits, ensuring timely and accurate support
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency within accounting operations

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA candidate preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit organization
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles (including fund accounting and grant management)
  • Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct and Bill.com (required)
  • Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with audit support and grant tracking/reporting
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a small team
