Full-Time Finance Department Internship

Organization Overview:

About the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative:

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works across the United States to address the unhealthy housing conditions in America’s lowest income communities. GHHI supports housing, environmental health, and energy efficiency services for families in communities around the country, as well as conducting direct services in Maryland and other GHHI sites. GHHI’s delivery model is based on its data-driven philosophy that public and private investments in social care and the social determinants of health are optimized and program outcomes are maximized when the energy, health and safety needs of an occupied home are addressed comprehensively, efficiently and simultaneously.

Intern Projects Overview:

This internship requires in-person attendance. Candidates must be currently residing in and able to work onsite within the Baltimore, Maryland, and/or Washington, DC metropolitan area. Additionally, the intern will work with the finance department to progress monthly close by supporting staff. The focus will be assisting with accounts receivable, accounts payable and progressing our document retention efforts. The intern will have the opportunity to experience different aspects of finance and accounting, including reviewing budget vs actuals with the Director of FP&A to understand monthly spending against projections, and reviewing and preparing monthly accrual expense entries with the Controller.

Responsibilities:

• Accounts Receivable: Assist with gathering support for monthly invoices such as timesheets, receipts, etc. Work with the Assistant Controller to create invoices and revenue accrual entries in Sage Intacct.

• Accounts Payable: Assist with entering invoices into Bill.com and uploading supporting documents.

• Journal Entries: Prepare and submit AJE’s in Sage Intacct. Work with Controller to review monthly accruals and prepare entries.

• Budget vs Actual: Review monthly revenue and expense against budget projections. Understand the importance of adhering to out budget per contracts guidelines.

• Document Retention: The intern will assist with implementing GHHI’s document retention policy by reviewing documents and determining whether to shred or scan to our G drive.

• Other Tasks:

Other departmental and organizational tasks as assigned and appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Excellent work ethic and communication skills

• Demonstrated team player with strong sense of responsibility

• Adherence to GHHI Internal Controls Policy • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive documents with discretion

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point

• Strong attention to detail.

Office Location: GHHI main office at 2714 Hudson Street, Baltimore, MD 21224-4716.

Work Hours: Typically, between the hours of 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with some projects or meetings requiring planned extended hours, evenings or weekends. Position available for up to 25 hours per week.

Period of Employment: July 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026 (unless extended by mutual agreement of the parties)

Wage Rate: This is a paid internship position at $25.00 per hour for a limited duration of employment.

Reporting: The Intern will report to the GHHI Director of FP&A, Yianni Charalambopoulos and will be required to submit weekly timesheets.
