Job description

We are a full-service mechanical contractor providing customers in the commercial, residential, and industrial sectors with innovative, energy-efficient heating and air conditioning services, automation and controls, industrial piping, new construction design and installation, and maintenance and replacement services.

Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties:

  • Notify Commercial Sales of upcoming projects for bid.
  • Assemble plans, specs and bid dates for projects that will be bid.
  • Take off materials and equipment from plans and specifications.
  • Contact suppliers and vendors to get prices on materials and equipment as necessary.
  • Estimate labor to install all equipment and material per project.
  • Tabulate total price for project per standard Newcomb & Company calculation procedure and review with commercial sales. Utilize a computerized estimation system (Autobid) when appropriate to take off piping, etc.
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications and have a comprehensive understanding of HVAC piping systems including but not limited to air handlers, boilers (steam and hot water), chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, terminal units and humidifiers.
  • Sizing and lay-out for piping systems and knowledge of pipe, valves and fittings and their appropriate use along with equipment connections and tie-in requirements
  • Ability to generate pricing/budgets with incomplete drawings by filling in the gaps and understanding overall mechanical intent and requirements for any give system.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously
  • Follow-up daily / weekly on all outstanding bids.
  • Assist in obtaining submittals from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Help generate takeoffs and sketches for the industrial piping manager for final buy list of materials after project award.
  • Excellent computer skills are essential as the detailed use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Autobid and Newcomb & Company’s internal computer systems will be a major component of this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform additional physical activities that require considerable use of limbs and appendages such as climbing, lifting, reaching above shoulders, balancing, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Ability to lift, move, and handle 80 lbs. tools or materials. Environmental conditions range from outdoors at all times of the year to indoors at normal office conditions to indoor tempered warehouse areas.
