This role typically requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to follow precise procedures to produce high-quality results.

What are some common challenges faced by batching operators, and how can they be effectively managed?

Batching operators often face challenges such as maintaining accuracy in ingredient measurements, adhering to strict production schedules, and ensuring consistent product quality. Managing these challenges requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with batching software or controls, and effective communication with quality assurance and production teams. Regular equipment checks and adherence to safety protocols also help minimize errors and downtime, contributing to a smooth and efficient batching process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Batching Operator, and why are they important?

To excel as a Batching Operator, you need strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and experience with industrial batching or mixing processes, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. About Asahi Beer USA

Asahi Beer USA is a premium beverage business built around super premium brands - Asahi Super Dry, Twisted Shotz, and Zeitaku Shibori. As part of Asahi Europe & International, the global arm of Asahi Group Holdings, we combine local agility with global scale, supported by Octopi Brewing, our state-of-the-art production facility in Wisconsin. Octopi is a modern, high-capacity facility built from the ground up to produce a wide range of beverages - and we're growing fast.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows their way around a brewhouse and knows how to lead a team. The Batching Manager provides direct oversight and support to Octopi's Batching team - owning everything from daily operations and shift scheduling to SOP management, recipe oversight, and continuous improvement. If you're the kind of leader who sets the tone by showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and developing your people, this one's for you.

This role reports to the Brewing Production Manager.

What You'll Do

  • Provide daily oversight and direction for the batching team across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts
  • Own safety - including incident investigations, reporting, and building a safety-first culture
  • Coach and develop team members using the Brewing Career Matrix
  • Manage staffing schedules, timecards, attendance, and PTO
  • Ensure SOPs are current, accurate, and consistently followed
  • Oversee batching recipes and specifications - including accuracy of new recipes in units, format, raw materials, and process
  • Work directly with the Recipe Manager and NPD Manager to maintain and update recipes
  • Drive continuous improvement across batching operations using available tools and analytics
  • Collaborate with Cellar, Inventory, Packaging, and Scheduling teams to ensure smooth product flow
  • Coordinate shutdown and preventive maintenance tasks with the team and Maintenance Planner
  • Manage parts and supplies inventory and ensure storage spaces are maintained to 5S standards
  • Ensure compliance with GMP and SQF requirements across all related processes
  • Conduct performance reviews, mid-year check-ins, and regular 1:1s with team members

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • 5+ years of brewing, cellaring, or beverage production experience - at least 2 years in a production facility
  • Strong knowledge of liquid process, recipe management, cellar operations, and batching/blending equipment
  • Experience with SOP creation and management
  • Familiarity with 5S principles, GMP, and SQF requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs as needed; ability to stand for extended periods

Skills & Experience That Set You Apart

  • Production team leadership and shift management
  • Recipe and specification oversight in a brewing or beverage environment
  • Continuous improvement and process optimization
  • Cross-functional collaboration (Cellar, Packaging, NPD, Scheduling, Maintenance)
  • SOP development and management
  • Safety culture ownership and incident investigation
  • GMP and SQF compliance
  • Coaching and developing hourly production team members

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $80,000-85,000 annually (salaried/exempt)
  • Eligible for annual performance-based bonus program
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off & 9 paid holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • And more

We are an equal opportunity employer. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Asahi Beer USA celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can show up as their authentic self.
