What You'll Do:
Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
Plant Operation. Operate plant equipment to regulate the flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins. Maintain responsibility for starting up, batching, and shutting down the batch plant on a daily basis.
Determine Work Procedure. Determine work procedure and assign duties to personnel concerned with batching and hauling concrete, as well as maintenance of plant and equipment.
Manage Employee Relations. Provide strong leadership, training, team building and supervision to all employees at the facility in order to support the operational function of the business. Develop teamwork among employees while upholding Company guidelines, policies, and procedures, as well as maintaining morale across all department levels.
Coordinate with Dispatch. Coordinate with dispatch for efficient delivery of concrete.
Maintain Compliance. Ensure environmental and safety policy compliance in all activities at the facility, including outside contractors. Immediately take appropriate steps to correct any conditions of non-compliance.
Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs. Assist and organize the work of employees in the daily inspection and maintenance of the facility to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions. Maintain the general appearance and security of grounds, buildings, equipment, and machinery.
Manage Inventory. Manage and monitor inventories and plant operating costs. Prepare daily reports.
Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Skills You'll Need:
Experience and Certifications. Previous experience in the Ready Mix, Aggregate or Construction industry is required. Valid VDOT Plant Operator certification is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Best Practices. A basic knowledge of concrete, cement, or construction industries is required.
Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Problem-Solving Skills. Must have the ability to work independently and problem solve while working alone or as part of a team.
Flexibility. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises. Must be willing to work a rotating schedule with varying shifts. Must be willing to work overtime based on business conditions.

Hourly Range:the hourly range for this role is between $24.00 - $27.09. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
