BARBACK JOB SUMMARY
The barback position is responsible for supporting the bartenders' direct customer service in a professional and responsive manner. While the barback does not take direct beverage orders from guests, the barback is responsible for interacting with the guests in a professional and courteous manner and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests as directed by the bartenders. The position is responsible for maintaining the bar areas in a clean and organized condition.
BARBACK ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain a positive, high, well-balanced energy level throughout the entire shift
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills in order to greet guests, answer guest questions and address guest concerns in a warm, professional, and accommodating manner
  • Maintain a clean and well stocked bar by filling ice wells, providing back up mixers and liquor, peeling, slicing, and pitting fruit, washing and stacking glassware, stocking beer, and taking out the trash as directed by the managers on duty and the bartenders on duty
  • Exhibit consistently dependable, reliable, punctual, and trustworthy conduct
  • Provide exemplary guest service on a consistent basis
  • Maintain bar presentation, bottles, and glasses in a clean, organized, attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation and promotion of beverages
  • Ensure all glasses, flatware and dishware are returned to their area and are cleaned and ready for next use
  • Ensure all drink and operating supplies are replenished frequently
  • Perform all service in compliance with all ABC laws and Company policies that relate to the service of alcoholic beverages and the prohibition against over-service, serving intoxicated patrons and serving minors
  • Ensure proper set up and break down of stations before and after operating hours and assist in set up and break down for all private events
  • Complete any and all assigned cleaning duties, including stocking and organization

BARBACK SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
  • Knowledge of Teamwork time keeping system
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to interact with guests, the public, and coworkers
  • Proficient verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and professionally deal with stressful situations during busy periods in a loud, busy, and crowded environment

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred

Experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a fast-paced restaurant/bar
  • Must be at least 18 to meet minimum age requirement of the State of Tennessee to serve alcoholic beverages

Licenses or Certificates
  • Food Handlers Card preferred
  • ABC Server Permit
  • CPR certification and/or First Aid training preferred

GROOMING
All employees must wear the proper uniform and maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance in accordance with the Company's grooming standards. This policy is implemented in compliance with the Company's obligations related to accommodating religious beliefs and practices, medical conditions and disabilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be able to work in an environment with constantly elevated temperatures
  • Must be able to work and move quickly in a tight-space environment in a safe manner without disrupting other employees
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
