Position: Head Bartender
Status: Part-Time
Reports To: Director of Events & Event Managers
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Head Bartender position is a supervisory and operational role, overseeing the bartending staff during each event across PPHG's historic venues. The ideal candidate must have an extensive working knowledge of cocktail recipes, products and bartending tools. A monthly schedule is created by the Staffing Manager with the ability to sign up for additional shifts beyond those scheduled. Availability must include nights, weekends and weekdays, with occasional holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
EVENTS
• Responsible key holder for liquor room and beverage walk-in cooler
• Ensure bar service is being run responsibly and guest alcohol consumption is monitored
• Prepare all passed specialty cocktails and inform bartenders on recipes if added to the bar
• Assist with restocking bars; monitor and accurately log usage during event
• Minimize waste of alcohol from over-pouring or opening multiple bottles, specifically during wine service at dinner
• Prepare for the weekend's events by reviewing beverage needs and alert a manager of any concerns
• Ability to meet shift minimums, as outlined below:
Spring + Fall: minimum 2 Saturdays, 1 Friday, & 1 Sunday per month
-16 Head Bartender Shifts: March 1st - June 30th
-12 Head Bartender Shifts: September 1st -November30th
Winter + Summer: minimum 1 Saturday, 1 Friday, & 1 Sunday per month
- 9 Head Bartender Shifts: December 1st - February 28th/29th
- 6 Head Bartender Shifts: July 1st - August 31st
LEADERSHIP/TRAINING
• Act as a supervisor to bar staff and alert Event Manager of any incidents and accidents involving bar staff
• Supervise and guide bar staff during events to ensure proper and timely service
• Develop training system for new employees and re-train any employees that are lacking in necessary skills
• Uphold and enforce PPHG policies such as, no tip jars, no serving shots or doubles, etc.
SETUP/BREAKDOWN
• Review bar pull, ensuring you have all product prior to event starting; pull bars for next event
• Create a plan of action for when bartenders arrive to ensure all product and equipment is organized
• Responsible for organization and cleanliness of beverage room
• Complete inventory usage sheet at the end of the event
• Oversee breakdown at each event and ensure PPHG items are cleaned and stored aware properly in the correct place
• Act as a closing supervisor; add bar notes to event report email, properly lock beverage rooms and walk-in coolers,
submit inventory usage sheet
• Notify Event Manager of any purchasing needs, concerns with staff, etc.
Requirements
• Must be TIPS certified
• Required to have an extensive working knowledge of cocktail recipes, products and bartending tools
• Possess a minimum of 6 months bartending with PPHG
• Required to have a wine tool for every shift
• Possess knowledge of PPHG beverage menus
• Ability to follow Patrick Properties standards, policies and procedures
• Ability to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems by exercising good judgment and solution-based thinking
• Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and organize work assignments, delegate work when necessary
• Motivate and manage assigned staff while maintaining cohesive team and following up with corrections when necessary
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time
• Willingness to adapt as needed in a fast-paced office environment with the ability to multi-task
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and within all departments
• Must possess mature, professional demeanor to interact with vendors and team
• Must be a team player and be willing and able to jump in the trenches
• Ability to be on time and have a flexible schedule
• Ability to work without direct supervision and follow through to completion of assigned tasks
