How to be a good barback?

Barbacks usually plan to become bartenders, but you have to prove yourself first. A good barback has the right combination of knowledge, foresight, and hustle to succeed in this job. To be a good barback, take initiative, multitask, and know the bar and stockroom well. Think and plan ahead at all times; replenish things before they run out, and if you’re running to the stockroom for something, grab what will run low next while you’re there. Observe your bartenders and learn how they do their job; this will help you anticipate their needs as well as develop your skills for a future promotion.
