POSITION: Accounting Intern
DIVISION: Business Affairs
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
PAY: $16.00 per hour
Under the supervision of the WXXI Chief Financial Officer this intern will learn about general ledger maintenance, transaction processing, posting journal entries, bank reconciliations, and daily accounting activities.
The Accounting Intern experience will include:
Learning Opportunities:
  • Transaction Processing: Support accounts payable and receivable, process weekly invoices, and handle expense report preparation.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Post journal entries, assist with month-end closing procedures, and ensure accurate coding of financial data.
  • Reconciliation & Reporting: Perform bank reconciliations, analyze financial data, and assist in preparing balance sheets and income statements.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain files, perform data entry, and shadow staff members to learn daily accounting activities.

Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled college student pursuing a degree in accounting or finance
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and aptitude for learning accounting software.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
