Job description

NorthHill Technology Resources has a need for a Backup Engineer to support a Federal Program in Springfield, VA.  This is a direct-hire role with our client, a fast-growing Federal Integrator.  An active Top-Secret Clearance is required, will sponsor for CI Polygraph within first year.
 

We are seeking a skilled Backup admin to join our storage team in Springfield, VA. The role involves monitoring, managing, and optimizing backup services and technologies deployed across multiple geographies.
Technologies: Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Cohesity, Rubrik, and more
Environments: On-premises systems running Linux/Windows, bare metal servers, VMware, and other virtual infrastructures
Role Overview

  • As the backup administrator, you will be responsible for backup operations, continual service improvement and vendor coordination. Your goal will be to maintain highly available, reliable, secure, and efficient backup environment for internal customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data protection services: Backup & Recovery, Solution Design, Implementation, and Migrations
  • Maintain and enhance backup environments to meet performance, availability, and compliance standards
  • Manage installation, configuration, and upgrades of backup software and hardware
  • Work extensively with Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Cohesity, and related backup solutions
  • Manage and troubleshoot backups for applications including Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL, MS-Exchange, VMware, NDMP etc
  • Utilize scripting skills to automate recurring backup and recovery tasks
  • Develop automated backup and recovery solutions using scripts or third-party tools
  • Operate in alignment with ITIL/ITSM processes: Incident, Change, Problem, and Configuration Management
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and backup/recovery process documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in Commvault, Rubrik and Cohesity
  • Relevant certifications in storage technologies (Commvault, Cohesity, Rubrik)
  • Experience in ITIL-based environments or similar operational frameworks
