Position Summary
Feeser's is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Transportation Coordinator to develop and administer our inbound freight management and backhaul programs. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely, cost-effective movement of inbound freight while maximizing logistics income and transportation efficiencies.
The Transportation Coordinator will collaborate closely with Purchasing, Transportation, Operations, and Accounting teams to optimize freight spend, identify backhaul opportunities, negotiate carrier rates, manage freight billing and documentation, and support key performance metrics across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage inbound freight and backhaul programs to ensure on-time delivery and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain tracking tools and reporting to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Partner with Purchasing, Operations, and Transportation teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve load utilization, and develop freight management lanes.
  • Ensure loads are scheduled, booked, and delivered according to plan while properly managing detention and fleet utilization.
  • Qualify carriers and maintain current carrier rates, contracts, insurance records, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct transportation cost analyses and identify the most cost-effective shipping methods, including truckload, LTL, intermodal, and fleet backhaul opportunities.
  • Review purchasing cycles and shipment schedules to maximize consolidation opportunities and logistics revenue.
  • Negotiate transportation rates and service agreements with carriers.
  • Review freight invoices, bills of lading, proofs of delivery, rate confirmations, purchase orders, and related shipment documentation for accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit customer, vendor, carrier, and internal billings related to freight, detention, layover, fuel surcharges, redelivery, pallet charges, lumper fees, and other approved accessorial costs.
  • Verify billed charges against contracts, tariffs, quotes, and routing instructions and resolve discrepancies before approval.
  • Maintain complete, auditable records for managed shipments, including load numbers, purchase orders, rates, delivery documentation, and billing status.
  • Track unbilled freight, disputed charges, aging items, and pending documentation, following through to resolution.
  • Collaborate with Accounting and Purchasing to support invoice matching, reconciliations, accruals, payment approvals, and revenue tracking.
  • Prepare recurring reports on freight costs, cost-per-case metrics, savings initiatives, logistics revenue, margins, billing accuracy, and dispute resolution.
  • Assist with audit requests, month-end close activities, and documentation of billing procedures and exception processes.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to reconcile rates, invoices, shipment documentation, and financial records.
  • Strong understanding of freight billing terminology, including prepaid, collect, third-party billing, detention, layover, lumper fees, redelivery, fuel surcharges, pallet charges, and other accessorial expenses.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including filters, lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation reporting.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize transportation management, purchasing, and accounting systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with carriers, vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of supply chain, transportation, logistics, or related experience.
  • Understanding of freight expense management, earned income programs, and carrier/vendor relationships.
  • Experience reviewing or processing invoices, transportation settlements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or freight-related billing.
  • Experience maintaining supporting documentation and resolving billing or invoice discrepancies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of supply chain or transportation management experience.
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and modern logistics technology platforms.
  • Knowledge of freight optimization, carrier procurement, and logistics analytics.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility and between work areas as needed.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated environments when required.
  • Must possess visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
