Role: Automation Technician
Location: Libertyville, IL

Job Description:

Seeking an Automation Technician with experience in injection molding automation to support, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize automated manufacturing systems. The role involves robot programming, preventive maintenance, process improvement, and ensuring safe, efficient production operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot molding automation systems, including robots, conveyors, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Program, optimize, and maintain molding robots (Sepro, Fanuc, Yushin, Wittmann).
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment.
  • Calibrate sensors, actuators, and replace worn components.
  • Support mold trials, new product launches, and automation setup.
  • Improve automation processes, cycle times, and equipment performance.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, robot backups, and technical documentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, ISO, FDA, and GMP standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in injection molding automation or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with robot programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial sensors, servo motors, motion control systems, VFDs, and pneumatic/hydraulic equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting automation systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Technical certification or Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
  • Experience with EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) design and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with Sepro, Fanuc, Yushin, or Wittmann robots.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Kaizen methodologies.
  • Experience working in ISO, FDA, or GMP regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
