What is an associate recruiter?

Associate Recruiters are entry-level professionals who assist in the recruitment process within organizations or staffing agencies. Their main responsibilities include sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting initial interviews, and coordinating with hiring managers. They support senior recruiters and help ensure that the hiring process runs smoothly by managing administrative tasks and maintaining candidate databases. Associate Recruiters play a key role in identifying and attracting top talent to meet an organization's staffing needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate recruiter?

To excel as an Associate Recruiter, you need strong interpersonal skills, a basic understanding of talent acquisition processes, and at least a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), LinkedIn Recruiter, and sourcing platforms is commonly required. Excellent communication, organization, and the ability to build relationships help differentiate top performers in this role. These skills are vital to efficiently attract, assess, and engage qualified candidates, ensuring successful hires for the organization.

What are some common challenges an associate recruiter might face during the candidate sourcing process?

Associate Recruiters often encounter challenges such as finding qualified candidates in a competitive market, managing high volumes of applications, and ensuring a positive candidate experience throughout the process. • Identify qualified talent through creative sourcing methods to include passive candidate identification on LinkedIn and Indeed, professional networking, employee referrals, and posted jobs.

  • Conduct in-depth prescreens that help identify best-fit candidates.

  • Follow the recruitment process established in Trilogy’s applicant tracking system (Lever).

  • Successfully execute offers, contingent offers, and Letters of Intent/Letters of Commitment for Key Personnel.

  • Coordinate development of well-written job descriptions with program managers/hiring managers.

  • Coordinate and schedule interviews between candidates and the hiring team.

  • Manage and source multiple job requisitions concurrently.

  • Assess applicants’ relevant knowledge, soft skills, experience, and aptitudes while progressing qualified candidates through the recruitment process.

  • Evaluate all candidates fairly and ensure they meet all minimum requirements of each role.

  • Maintain excellent and timely communication with candidates that are being considered for future or current positions.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3+ years' overall recruiting experience

  • Federal/government contract recruiting experience

  • Demonstrated experience in technical, program management, financial, and/or corporate recruiting

  • Effective negotiation and strong candidate closing skills

  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail; the ability to adapt and make decisions based on available information; and the motivation to creatively address recruiting challenges

  • Extensive knowledge of applicant tracking software applications

  • Ability to develop a large, diverse, and well qualified applicant pool using multiple angles of approach

  • Adapting to and enhancing a highly collaborative and cooperative culture.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference for candidates local to the DC metro area to attend ad hoc or quarterly meetings.

  • Working experience with Lever ATS

  • Previous recruiting experience with federal healthcare agencies such as VA, VHA, VBA, DHA, NIH, etc.

  • Certified Internet Recruiter (CIR) certification

Benefits (including but not limited to):
