This position performs complex analytical work with and coordinate other Engineering professionals, FEC associates, customers, and vendors.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Machining ME to join our precision manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience operating and programming CNC turning centers and milling machines. This role demands expertise in G-code programming, setup, tooling, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient, high-quality production of complex parts.

This position is responsible for identifying, developing and implementing manufacturing strategies that support engine component manufacturing, improve large engine assembly, and test procedures of assembled engines and components. These manufacturing techniques will be the cornerstone for a world leader in engine technology that provides propulsion to the US Navy, US Coast Guard and provides emergency power for nuclear power plants. The engines produced weigh up to 250 tons and provide up to 33,500 horsepower to meet customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program CNC turning centers and milling machines using G-code or CAM software (e.g., Esprit (preferred), Mastercam, or GibbsCAM).
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T to determine machining strategies.
  • Perform setup and operation of multi-axis large CNC lathes & mills.
  • Optimize machining processes for quality, efficiency, and tool life.
  • Select and install proper tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet tight tolerances and specifications using calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining, tooling, or programming issues quickly.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to refine manufacturing processes.
  • Train and mentor junior machinists or apprentices as needed.
  • Can operate and edit ERP systems
  • Is willing to help other ME maximize product cycle times
  • Conduct ROI and IRR for production savings projects
  • Design fixtures for new products
  • Lead product integration projects

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in CNC machining and programming
  • Knowledge of turning centers (2-5 axis) and milling machines (3-5 axis)
  • Strong understanding of G-code, feeds and speeds, and tool selection
  • Proficient with CAM software (Espirit (Preferred), Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar).
  • Ability work with tight tolerances in a high-precision environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability work independently and as part of a team
  • Technical certification or associate degree preferred
