Job description

As the Associate Manager, Facilities & Maintenance you will be responsible for organizing, prioritizing and coordinating the short term and long-term maintenance activities of manufacturing, utilities operations, and the overall management of site facilities services, including equipment, buildings and grounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Health & Safety

  • Take all actions necessary for the adequate control and/or elimination of hazards in the workplace including detailed investigations for all safety incidents including near misses.
  • Provide support, direction, coaching and training to the teams for all health and safety issues (SHERAs, workplace hazards, OPLs etc)
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory health and safety requirements.
  • Facilitate and participate in health and safety training on all new and existing programs as required.
  • Assume role of Incident Commander during Emergencies, including ERT responsibilities, completion of site reporting in Entropy, completion of other required documentation and participation in continued investigative procedures
  • Lead and reinforce safe work practices within their team(s) including Good Manufacturing Practices, 5S and Process Safety Management System (PSM).
  • Partake in weekly review of safety incidents and execution of CAPAs assigned from reviews.
  • Drive execution of 5S strategy in all maintenance areas, Facilities and Administration
  • Ensure contractors are adequately trained and adhering to company policies and procedures in the completion of work on site.

Quality

  • It is the responsibility of all SCJ Brantford manufacturing employees to follow Good Manufacturing Practices as directed.
  • Ensure team receives adequate training, education, and awareness, to maintain quality systems and to challenge individual teams to maximize percent conformance.
  • Follow up immediately on product notifications, expanded audits, and close out notifications in SAP
  • Initiate Corrective Action Reports, Off- Standards etc.
  • Maintain adequate maintenance plans to ensure delivery of consistent quality results on production floor and facility equipment operation.

Environmental

  • Working collaboratively with environmental resources, will drive a proactive environmental program, monitoring aspects and impacts and driving improvement initiatives.
  • Participate and support ISO audits and ensure all identified issues are resolved in a timely fashion.

Technical

  • Diagnose and assess technical issues and engage necessary resources to successfully correct problems, actively participating in problem solving protocols
  • Drive the effective execution of overall maintenance planning and scheduling, ensuring timely availability of resources (spares, manpower and tools).
  • Drive periodic review of maintenance plans to ensure effectiveness and suitability to drive current maintenance strategy
  • Ensure the revision and updating of "Maintenance Technical Documentation" occurs as necessary including but not limited to job tasks/plans, manuals, drawings and spare parts information
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure that maintenance activities on all equipment managed by them are carried out on time and in full following the required standards.
  • Drive the documentation of breakdowns and execution of analysis to prevent reoccurrence on production machinery
  • Liaise with stockroom purchaser to ensure that all necessary required spares are ordered on time and in full
  • Maintain buildings and grounds, through facility staff assignments and outside service contracts, to ensure proper work environments for all employees that meet high company standards of safety and aesthetics.
  • Co-ordinate and maintain overall plant security and housekeeping through contracted services and company personnel to effectively protect and maintain company assets at a minimum expense.
  • Manage steam, power, heat, building occupancy budgets, and programs to achieve maximum service at minimum expense
  • Work collaboratively across the site to maintain solid customer accountability and services associated with the Admin center and company store.

Team Development

  • Primary responsibility for fostering, developing, and growing teams through effective goal setting, sensitivity to team dynamics and identification of training gaps.
  • Provide direction and coaching to the team to set and achieve/exceed business objectives (i.e. productivity, quality, safety, environment, and customer service).
  • Drive adherence to execution of weekly schedule for trades including time confirmations and job reviews to ensure effective execution of weekly scheduled work
  • Inspire the team to stretch their thinking and move their boundaries, delegating empowerment based on team readiness
  • Effectively work with production teams to nurture One Team, One Purpose strategy
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining training protocols to build competency and reduce knowledge gaps across the function

Business and Financial Strategies

  • Collaboratively execute and drive budget planning process, examining and executing on cost savings initiatives to drive business results
  • Coordinate all maintenance activities for work teams normally consisting of 12 to 25 trades people (millwrights, electricians and plumber) and 1-3 maintenance planners (work orders, vacation requests, accumulated time off, training schedules, etc.)
  • Support Facilities in day to day execution of projects and management of personnel.
  • Responsible for the recognition of employees/teams, individual coaching, discipline, personal objectives setting and performance management. Participate in employee selection as required.
  • Responsible for shift-to-shift communication to ensure alignment on priority, safety and hazard awareness, and overall site awareness.
  • Keep operations Manager abreast of departmental technical/people issues
  • Work collaboratively with the Manufacturing Operations Manager, in developing and executing a long-term maintenance strategy that is aligned with the corporate vision and objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with other support functions (engineering, quality, material handling,) to direct technical resources for equipment maintenance and continuous improvement initiative as well as in support of new product development, Design of Experiments and Experimental Production Runs.
  • Assume full responsibility for time and attendance management in dedicated programs, ensuring accuracy in entries impacting employee payroll.
  • Develop database of tracking spares consumption and ensure that there is availability of necessary spares to keep machines running all the time thereby reducing downtime associated with stock out of spares
  • Support approval of level 1 purchase orders for stockroom and maintenance purchases.
  • Facilitate and manage organizational improvement initiatives at the team level (e.g., Lean activities, etc.).
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities lead to solicit and maintain cost effective contractor agreements and services

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • University Degree required
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing supervisory position (packaged goods industry experience is an asset)
  • Competent understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing related issues
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of maintenance strategies (condition based, time based, predictive etc.)
  • Good knowledge of SAP related functions required
  • Experience in Facilities management
  • Working knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Sound understanding and utilization of maintenance shop equipment and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee experience as a management lead

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Work will be performed in an office based setting with frequent, daily exposure to the manufacturing environment
  • All work is performed in house, with limited travel required

The Company's Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between 101,829.00 CAD - 127,286.00 CAD. Job related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive and/or long-term incentives.
